Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting, Systems, and Reporting, the Supervisor, Accounts Payable is responsible for supervising the accounts payable team that processes payables for all of our coal operations. You will provide a high level of efficiency, responsiveness, and support to the business.

To be successful in this role we are looking for someone with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; someone who is a proactive and motivated self starter, organized, able to prioritize contending demands, and has excellent attention to detail. You are someone who can work well with and empower a team, but also has strong supervisory skills. These skills are vital as you will be leading and mentoring our accounts payable team to success.

In this role you will have the opportunity to engage with departments all across our operations and will be the main contact for vendor inquiries, representing Teck to many of our partners. You will be heading a fast paced department, crucial to the success of our business by ensuring our vendors are paid on time and accurately. This temporary position is for a 12 month contract.

Responsibilities :

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Effectively lead the processing of approximately 18,000 invoices per month in accordance with Company policies
• Routinely evaluate, coach, mentor and supervise a team of 12 employees
• Determine resource requirements and an appropriate organization structure for the team
• Measure efficiency and operational effectiveness by establishing key performance measurements and reporting against established metrics
• Establish and implement internal controls, maintain process documentation and ensure compliance
• Respond to queries from vendors to resolve issues and streamline payment processes
• Coordinate with internal and external audit team members, providing necessary supporting documentation and responding to inquiries
• Proactively identify issues and generate solutions by critically assessing procedures
• Lead and support implementation of new processes and systems

Qualifications :

• Degree, diploma, or certificate in Accounting, combination of relevant schooling and experience will be considered
• Prior staff supervision or leadership
• Minimum five years demonstrated ability in accounts payable
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP and SharePoint
• Strong grasp of internal controls
• Proven ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, high volume environment
