Overview:

Sweetwater Management LLC (“Sweetwater”) is a natural resources royalty company headquartered in Denver, Colorado and a wholly-owned portfolio company of Orion Resource Partners. Sweetwater’s cornerstone asset are royalties derived from low-cost, long-lived trona deposits and approximately four million acres of mineral rights and one million surface acres in Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. In addition to enhancing value from the existing land position, Sweetwater will grow its minerals and potentially renewable energy, as well as oil and gas, royalty portfolio through acquisitions. As a result, the Technical Services Director will be a key business partner and advisor to the CEO and Orion Resource Partners as this individual executes our acquisition and portfolio rationalization strategy.  Sweetwater is seeking an experience Technical Services Director with hard rock geology exploration experience.

Primary job duties and responsibilities are to:

  • Develop geological program concepts to encourage increasing the expanse of current hard rock mining operations;
  • Develop local and regional geological models utilizing stratigraphic correlation and engineering information to best describe the opportunity for new asset development programs;
  • Direct the development of visual models of subsurface geology for delineation and evaluation of exploration projects;
  • Ensure models are up to date with the latest information;
  • Coordinate effectively with the Land Manager on all land use and rights matters;
  • Interact effectively with a wide range of people from the non-technical to the very technical, attorneys, corporate officers, operators, and government entities;
  • Contribute to development of the corporate strategic plan;
  • Apply advanced aspects of professional/technical discipline and make recommendations on proposals, analysis and budgets;
  • Act as a resource to colleagues and helps other sell projects and/or ideas by being an advocate;
  • Manage relationships and work product of any outsourced technical services work;
  • Present to management and represent business assets at technical meetings such as joint ventures or partnerships; and
  • Participate in internal and external due diligence.

Qualifications include:

  • Advanced degree in Geology or Geophysics or similar educational background;
  • More than 20 years of experience as a hard rock mineral or mining exploration geologist;
  • Extensive knowledge of hard rock mineralogy, economic geology, geological processes, soil science, chemistry, hydrology, field mapping and mineral rights law;
  • Experience in areas of federal and state mineral leasing laws, mineral appraisal methodology, mineral economics, and mined land reclamation;
  • Detail oriented and the ability to manage information, time and prioritize tasks to maximum efficiency;
  • Ability to influence, communicate written and verbally, cooperate and coordinate well with others;
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting deadlines consistently; and
  • Must be a self-starter, motivated with good organizational and reasoning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional geologist qualifications as determined by Canadian National Instrument 43-101 or the Australasian Code for Reporting of Exploration Results, Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves;
  • Exposure to AutoCAD, GEMCOM and Promine, or equivalent information systems; and
  • Wyoming, Utah and Colorado geological exploration experience.

Travel:

This role is expected to have a 25% to 40% travel commitment.
