Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Superintendent: Mine Planning to join the Technical Services team in Perth.
Reporting to the Manager: Mining Engineering, you will provide expert technical and planning direction for current and future operations. You will facilitate the safe and optimal extraction of gold from open pit mining operations across the region. In compliance with site environmental and safety standards, you will be engaged in the optimisation and improvement of operational practices, technical aspects of the medium to long term mine planning of multiple open pits and feasibility studies.
This role is available on a combined fly in/fly out to Site and Perth office and is offered on a roster comprising: 5 days on, 2 days off (Monday to Friday) in Perth for two weeks, followed by 4 days on site and 3 days off.

Key responsibilities include:
- Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times;
- Undertake projects to improve and optimise operational performance;
- Work collaboratively with the sites to identify opportunities and successfully implement operational improvements;
- Undertake open pit optimisations, design and evaluation work and ore Reserves in accordance with established planning policies such as cut-off grades and legislative requirements;
- Undertake strategic planning, medium- and long-term scheduling and the development of optimal pit staging and mine designs;
- Project management of open pit studies from concept through to feasibility;
- Prepare and communicate reports on technical activities including dilution modelling, fleet requirements, project development and identification of barriers to timely goal completion;
- Demonstrate good commercial acumen and undertake economic analysis for open pits and projects;
- Ensure all work is completed to a high quality, has the appropriate level of detail, is correct, complete and delivered in a timely manner;
- Develop strong networks with operational personnel and supporting departments to ensure effective communication, information transfer and efficient preparation and execution of plans;
- Ability to engage and manage external consultants for specialist technical projects;
- Develop, implement and maintain adherence to appropriate procedures and processes to ensure consistent, timely and efficient delivery of mining plans, studies and projects.
The successful candidate's CV would be expected to include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering
- 15 years open pit engineering experience (planning and operational)
- Understanding of mining and environmental approvals
- Proficient in mining software such as Deswik, Whittle, Xeras, Datamine and Microsoft Office
- Valid WA "C" Driver's Licence
