Position Description:

The successful candidate will manage and conduct financial and operational audits on a risk-assessed basis across Barrick's North American operations. While the role's primary geographic focus is North America, the individual may periodically be called upon to assist Barrick's other operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development and execution of the department's annual internal audit plan
  • Manages and conducts financial and/or operational audit engagements and performs special projects requested by management
  • Works with management to identify risks that would prevent achievement of their business/process objectives, and determines whether appropriate controls are in place to mitigate these risks
  • Provides leadership, instruction, and general guidance to supporting team members as required
  • Manages subject matter experts and other external resources in the execution of specific reviews
  • Reviews and prepares reports and working papers that support opinions and recommendations to improve processes, systems, and controls
  • Manages the departmental customer relationship from the planning stage through the completion of the engagement, ensuring that management is kept apprised of departmental activities/findings
  • Communicates audit results and recommended actions to management, and determines if appropriate and timely action is being taken for significant items previously reported
  • Assists the Senior Manager, Internal Audit to facilitate effective close-out meetings with management and resolution of disputed audit issues
  • Adheres to all organizational and professional ethical standards
  • The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.
Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree as well as a professional designation (e.g. CPA, CMA, CA, CIA), or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years of progressive internal audit experience with mid to large size corporations, of which at least two (2) years has been in a supervisory capacity preferred; additional commercial experience is highly desirable
  • Experience in the resource/mining sector
  • Good knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, as well as control frameworks such as COSO, ISO 31000
  • Excellent written and verbal communication at all levels
  • Ability to work with minimum direction
  • Confident and self-motivated to succeed in a high-performing organization
  • Flexible to work in a variety of situations and assist when special needs arise
  • Team player, who works to the highest standards and is able to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with matters of sensitive nature
  • Exposure to, and understanding of, Information Technology audit concepts
  • Knowledge of TeamMate, SAP, and/or ACL preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
