THE ROLE
The purpose of this job is to safely and efficiently advance capital and secondary development waste at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. The Development Miner must be able to perform all mining tasks: drilling, blasting, bolting, scaling, mucking, map reading, drift on line and grade, and advance utilities.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES/TASKS:
  • Marking the face with the appropriate drill pattern
  • Drilling holes parallel and on correct angles
  • Cleaning, scratching, and marking holes.
  • Shovel lifters when the heading is complete
  • Comply with MSHA & ATF explosives regulations and requirements
  • Proper handling and loading of explosives.
  • Minimizing explosive waste.
  • Detonation of explosives (only licensed blasters)
  • Accurately complete blast report as per regulations
  • Hand scaling
  • Ensures all hoses and other auxiliary services are neatly stored
  • Maintains hauling efficiency by managing working environment conditions
  • Maintains proper housekeeping and tidiness
  • Follows correct loading and dumping procedures
  • Inspects and assesses site conditions to determine scaling and bolting requirements
  • Erects barricades to prevent unauthorized access if necessary
  • Wetting down headings for dust suppression
  • Ensures services (air, water) are advanced
  • Installs appropriate bolts and screen to specified pattern and spacing.

Safety, Health, Environment and Community
  • Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
  • Identifies, addresses and report potential risks and hazards
  • Comply with the site's standards and procedures in SHEC
  • Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department, site and company standards
  • Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations, and report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives, reviews and investigations
  • Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
  • Wear proper PPE at all times
Operations
This is a fully self-sufficient position. The miner must be able to perform all aspects of the mining operations and do so with the highest level of quality. This is a fast paced position that is constantly striving for more efficient ways of cycling the headings while maintaining the highest level of safety.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
3-5 years experience in mining preferred
Fast paced development experience desired
Experience in mine specific equipment
Excels in Jumbo and ground support activities.
Sound understanding of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities
Good time management and prioritization skills
Works unsupervised or with limited supervision
Ability to perform basic maintenance, including lubrication/cooling water systems
Energetic and self-motivated.
