  • Lead our highly professional and dynamic Exploration department at our Touquoy Operations
  • Based at our Touquoy Operations
  • 5 days on, 2 days off roster; drive in / drive out (own transport required)

We seek an experienced professional to fill the role of Manager Exploration Atlantic.

This permanent full-time position is based at the Touquoy mine site located approximately 1-hour northeast of Halifax, near Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. The mine is fully permitted and began production in fall 2017.

Our Manager Exploration Atlantic will join a dynamic Exploration team. Reporting to the General Manager Exploration, your role will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Mine Geology and the Exploration departments.

The Opportunity

  •  Leading safe work practices by ensuring that the annual exploration work programs are executed in safe manner in compliance with St Barbara’s Health, Safety and Environment Management Standards, including investigating all safety and health concerns and implementing continuous improvement in safety.
  • Enhancing exploration’s safety performance through promotion of St Barbara’s Health, Safety and Environment Management Standards.
  • Developing and updating St Barbara exploration safety procedures, guidelines, risk registers, annual safety plans; facilitate annual audits and overseeing the implementation to ensure safety in the workplace.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager Exploration developing annual work programs and budgets; managing the day to day execution of the exploration activity in a safe and timely manner; monitoring and meeting all internal and external commitments (reporting, tenement, work and expenditure).
  • Directing Exploration resources to ensure that exploration targets are tested on time and on budget.
  •  Overseeing the capture of all exploration data and providing appropriate field supervision to ensure that all data is collected efficiently and is of the highest possible standard, quality and effectiveness.
  • Overseeing the collating, interpreting and accurately presenting geological data by senior geologists from field exploration programs including aircore and RC chip logging, diamond core logging, geological maps, plans, cross sections, three dimensional models and technical reports.
  • Identifying new exploration targets and opportunities in consultation with team members.
  • Providing timely reporting of exploration results through overseeing the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual technical reports.
  • Providing the General Manager Exploration with timely and comprehensive information, analysis and advice on relevant exploration activities to assist with exploration project decision making and turnover.
  • Ensuring the St Barbara exploration function has a well-developed pipeline of Canadian prospects and that the prospects are evaluated and ranked using the companies targeting systems (4P and EV) to optimise value through targeting the available drilling funds to the most prospective projects.
  • Maintaining tenements in good standing through strategic work programs, and utilize results from the annual targeting studies to influence the annual tenement strategy and decisions on Option Agreements.
  • Complying with and participating in reviews of Exploration systems of work and standard work practices to assist in providing ongoing improvement to the effectiveness of the Exploration team.

Our successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • A personal commitment to behavior consistent with St Barbara's Values including honesty and integrity, respect, working together, delivering to promise and striving to do better
  •  A Bachelor of Science in Geology or equivalent
  •  At least 15 years relevant experience in gold exploration
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing people
  • Extensive experience designing Interface RC (IFRC), RC and diamond drilling programs
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with one-year exploration strategy objectives
  •  Demonstrated capacity to make sound short-term tactical decisions and promptly assembling and interpreting data to successfully action priorities
  • Demonstrated capability in organizing work, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
  • Strong contractor management experience including experience with contractor HSE audits and holding contractor feedback meetings
  •  An ability to develop accurate geological models as a basis for resource estimates considered an asset
  • Exposure to a wide range of gold deposits in different geological settings considered an asset
  • Experience in target generation and project testing by drilling considered an asset
  • Experience in Micromine and ArcGIS, MapInfo or QGis considered an asset
