POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Chief Geologist is responsible for providing strategic direction and management for all geological activity within the Magino mine. The role shall direct, lead and control the activities of Ore Control, Resource & Mining Geology and Geotechnical whilst managing a large team of surface drilling contractors.

As this is a startup operation, the successful candidate must have a strong focus on employee development to help achieve increased productivity and to maximise return on investment and in compliance with corporate objectives.

MAGINO MINE:
The Magino Project is a brown-fields site located in northern Ontario, Canada that contains an historical underground gold mine, landfill and tailings management facility ("TMF"). The Corporation has conducted a Feasibility Study during 2017 that examined mining the deposit using conventional open pit mining methods and extraction of gold from the ore using a 10,000 tonnes per day carbon-in-pulp ("CIP") mineral processing facility. When developed, Magino will produce around 150,000 ounces of gold during the first five years of production. The project has over a 15-year mine production life (including one year of pre-production).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and manage all mine geology and ore control activities in support of mine operations
Oversee all geologic and resource models as well as resource - reserve reporting
Lead and supervise all geology-related work in the mine area including mapping, drilling, sampling and sample QAQC, ore control, models, and reconciliation. Support and take a leading role in metallurgical modeling and other related engineering programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of experience in mine geology operations, including open pit operations.
  • 5+ years of open pit mining experience
  • Experience in orogenic greenstone gold deposits
  • Strong experience in geological resource modeling
  • Strong experience in ore control, preferably including angle RC ore control drilling
  • Ability to design and implement ore control and resource modeling systems
  • Other important:
  • Underground mine geology or operations experience
  • Experience in high grade, erratic gold systems (like Magino)
  • Feasibility studies and mine start-up experience a plus
  • Solid record of Reserve - Resource additions
  • QP preferred or eligible
  • Database & QAQC experience


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of four days on and three days off, twelve hour days.
