Cowan is recruiting a Maintenance Superintendent – Drill Rigs for an Open Pit Mine. We are especially interested to hear from candidates who are currently or has recently been in a similar position. Prior exposure to the Epiroc/Atlas Copco D65 range of equipment will be advantageous to be considered.
The incumbent will coordinate the work of employees in the general maintenance, repairs, servicing and allocation of equipment and fleet to ensure that site operations progress is not hampered as a result of breakdown and idle time. In charge of overall maintenance responsibilities for all drilling equipment at the mine.
THE OPPORTUNITY
- Oversee all maintenance activities on all drills at the mine
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Interface with subcontractors’ managers and other senior personnel on daily basis regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of equipment or machinery, in relation to servicing, maintenance and repairs required
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety procedures and Standards
- Coordinate with the Human Resources for appropriate staffing levels
- Coordinate all workshop activities with the subcontractors to ensure that the maintenance, servicing and repairs of machinery and equipment is in accordance with the company procedures and contract agreement
- Ensure proper training is given and recorded for all employees in an effort to reduce quality concerns
YOU ARE

- Currently or have recently been in a similar role
- A South African citizen (non-negotiable)
YOU BRING
- Must have tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Diploma at minimum)
- 10+ years relevant maintenance experience in Drill fleet and mechanical work
- Experience with Epiroc/Atlas Copco D65 range of Drills will be advantageous
- Sound knowledge and interpretation of relevant legislation
- Exposure to budgeting
- Knowledge of modern automotive maintenance methods and procedures
- Strong motivational and leadership skills
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills
- Good report writing and record keeping skills
- Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills
- Good computer skills. Ability to work under pressure
- Proficient in automation controls and programming
- Able to cope with the physical demands of the job
- Enjoy practical and manual activities. Able to work with hand tools
- Aptitude for technical activities
