Cowan is recruiting a Drill Maintenance Supervisor for the Drill Fleet of an Open Pit Mine. We are especially interested to hear from candidates who has hands-on maintenance experience on the Epiroc/Atlas Copco D65 range of equipment.

 Incumbent will be responsible for all Maintenance, Repairs & Services on Drill fleet to ensure smooth running of the fleet, to obtain required meters and to meet required KPI standards.  

THE OPPORTUNITY

• Diagnosis faults, repairs, overhaul and services on DTH Drills
• Set up of drills for optimum performance on RCS system
• Compile Service Information System (SIS) report and submit to supervisor for signage
• Performs preventative maintenance on Epiroc Drills
• Supervise and assigns the work of planned maintenance, repairs and services to employees
• Inspect work for completeness and ensure that all breakdowns are dealt with on time
• Determine material, equipment, and supplies to be used
• Monitor critical equipment and machinery to ensure proper operation and calibration
• Liaise with production department on their machinery requirements
• Coordinate and inspect the subcontractor’s work to ensure that maintenance, repairs and services are carried out as planned
• Ensure that Health and Safety rules and regulations are adhered to during the shift and all matters relating to this are dealt with using the resources within the company in line with the companies Health and Safety policy
• Prepare monthly, weekly and daily report on maintenance and service of drill fleet, for Maintenance planners

YOU ARE

• Regarded as a Maintenance Specialist on Drill Rigs and especially on Epiroc/Atlas Copco Drills
• A South African citizen (non-negotiable)

YOU BRING

• Must be trade qualified Diesel Mechanic/completed maintenance apprenticeship on Drilling Rigs and then further training/certification by Epiroc/Atlas Copco plus
• 5+ years as Drill Rig Maintenance Specialist/Mechanic/Supervisor
• At least 3 years’ experience with Surface Rock and Rotary Drills
• Experience with Atlas Copco D65 range of Drills will be preferred.
• Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulic diagnostic procedures
• Ability to read hydraulic and electric diagrams together with their symbols
• Knowledge of Hydraulic system and operations
• Knowledge of the Rig Control System and operations
• Knowledge of MGC, MMIC and its Subsidiaries
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, etc)
• Extensive earth moving electrical and electronic fault-finding skills
• Technical skills, Analytical skills, Good communication skills, Good report writing and record keeping skills, Good computer and numeric skills
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
