About the role

We are looking for a Hydrogeologist/Hydrologist to support and participate in all open-pit and underground hydrogeology and dewatering operations essential to the safe execution of open pit and underground mine plans.

This role is a great opportunity to work in a challenging and exciting environment. Reporting to the Superintendent Hydrology and Water Services and working within the Mine Execution team, you will be:
  • Day-to-day surveillance of open pit hydrogeological infrastructure (piezometers, wells, drains, and surface water) performance, evaluation, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Support integration of surface water management plan with Mine Planning and Operations teams
  • Day-to-day integration with the open pit and underground Geotechnical teams to ensure hydrogeological priorities are managed
  • Day-to-day surveillance of the underground drainage gallery dewatering system (development, drains, piezometers, and wells) performance, evaluation, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Integration of Hydrology/Mine Water Service/Underground infrastructure with the short and mid-range Mine Planning/Operations teams
  • Coordinate with the Mine Planning and Operations teams to optimize mine plans that will protect Hydrogeologic infrastructure and reduce costs
  • Hydrogeological support of open pit and underground infrastructure installations (piezometers, wells, and drains) and drilling operations (core, rotary, horizontal, and underground drilling)
  • Selection of open pit and underground piezometer installation depths and well plans based on available hydrogeological data (geology, geophysics, drilling information, etc.)
  • Plan and analyze open pit and underground airlift/pump testing to determine appropriate downhole instrumentation
  • Coordination of on-site contractor hydrogeologists for open pit and underground infrastructure installations
  • Review of open pit and underground drilling conditions in order to provide recommendations to ensure borehole targets are achieved
  • Analyze and evaluate both open pit and underground hydrogeological data

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Bachelor degree in engineering, hydrology or water resource management
  • At least 3 years of Surface Mining experience
  • Basic understanding of pumping infrastructure, wells and piezometers
  • Strong project management skills, including time management
  • Strong report writing skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Post graduate qualification in engineering, hydrology or water resource management
  • Understanding of fractured rock hydrology
