About the role

The Trading Analyst will work within a trading team to provide market analysis & support a variety of trading objectives: identification of trading opportunities through advanced market based analytics. A combination of fundamental, quantitative and data techniques will be required, with a focus on developing and maintaining a competitive edge over other market participants.

Responsibilities

§ Support the activities of physical and financial traders through creating competitive edge in market analysis and prediction:

o Facilitate or increase trading profits through a combination of fundamental analysis and advanced data science techniques

o Create prediction models for market prices or key drivers such as supply or demand

o Develop trading analytics tools to ensure traders can access and visualise model output efficiently

o Work on both deterministic and stochastic approaches to price prediction

o Ensure that the company is abreast of the latest developments in analytical approach and techniques

§ Work with digital team as required to ensure data capture/architecture/retrieval are developed to support this activity; work with data scientists as required to develop modelling or analytics tools

§ Build a close collaboration with the Commercial Market Analysis team to leverage on their work and avoid duplication of effort

§ Monitor market developments (both short and long term) to ensure that analytics approach remains effective

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

§ At least 5 years of experience of market analysis within a commercially driven commodity participant (e.g. merchant trader, industrial player or financial institution)

§ A degree in an analytical discipline; and ideally computer science at graduate or postgraduate level

§ A strong understanding of commodity markets and of working with traders; ideally a exposure to trading strategies and management of risk

§ Excellent knowledge of the fundamental drivers of commodity prices, such as: short run marginal costs, long term cost of new capacity, logistics costs, value of quality differentials

§ Direct analytical expertise within sophisticated markets such as energy, metals or agricultural commodities

§ Ability to identify, gather & process the data necessary for modelling and data analytics

§ Deep understanding of programming and applied computer science; ability to work with data scientists and other data analytics professionals

§ Extensive experience of building fundamental supply/demand models and combining them with data science techniques such as machine learning

§ Good communication & presentational skills
