  • Successful mine rehabilitation and closure is a complex, challenging and rewarding field of work

We are looking for a Superintendent Closure Planning to support the business in identifying and managing Rehabilitation and Closure risks using your technical knowledge.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Rehabilitation & Closure practitioner to provide expert advice to the business to assess, manage and minimise risks as they relate to Rehabilitation & Closure.

Reporting to the Principal Closure Planning and working in a diverse team, within Rehabilitations & Closures you will:
  • Lead and develop a team of closure planning specialists;
  • Lead closure representation on various mining and closure studies;
  • Ensure development of the Rio Tinto Iron Ore site closure plans to meet business, project and regulatory requirements;
  • Ensure closure aspects are considered in our mine planning, design and operation;
  • Coordinate aspects of closure such as cost estimation, development of closure completion criteria and R&D projects;
  • Develop working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll bring
  • Leadership experience;
  • Degree in Environmental / Biological Science or Engineering;
  • Strong planning and project management skills;
  • Contractor management experience;
  • Experience in mining / rehabilitation / restoration;
  • Experience in site closure planning.

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Prior experience managing R&D / improvement projects;
  • GIS skills;
  • Basic Vulcan skills.

This role is for applicants residing in or willing to permanently relocate to Western Australia. Rio Tinto offers Fly in and fly out options from Perth, our regional FIFO hubs and the opportunity to live in our residential towns where applicable.
