Dimensions

This position will report to the Security Coordinator and will manage several contractors.

In this role, you will interact with the following external stakeholders:
  • City of Timmins, Timmins Police Service
  • Timmins Fire Department
  • Ontario Provincial Police
  • Ministry of Natural Resources
  • GardaWorld security
  • AC Tech Alarm Securities
  • Convergint Technologies
  • A variety of contract companies who perform work at Newmont Porcupine sites.


Purpose

Provide effective supervision and support to a dynamic security team and oversee day-to-day security operations to ensure a fiscally responsible and effective approach to protecting employees and company assets, all while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, safety policies, procedures and position directives.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations
  • Ensure and promote a safe and healthy work environment
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont Safety and Sustainability policies
  • Conduct regular site inspections
  • Assist with conducting monthly safety meetings with security staff
  • Promote and ensure compliance with the principles of Newmont's Fatality Risk Management requirements and conduct verifications as required


Essential Duties

Security Standards:
  • Work closely with contract security provider to ensure a superior standard of security and asset protection.
  • Work closely with the Emergency Response Specialist to ensure emergency readiness specific to the security team's roles and responsibilities relating to emergency response. Respond to site emergencies if required.
  • Effective supervision of the security team to ensure a superior standard of security and asset protection.
  • Ensure proper scheduling (in conjunction with contract security provider) to ensure necessary coverage at all times
  • Ensure all security guards are up to date with provincial licensing requirements
  • Support the contract security provider to ensure all security guards receive necessary training on Newmont Porcupine sites and provide proper documentation of any training conducted to the training department
  • Ensure all security guards are up to date on Newmont Porcupine policies and procedures
  • Liaise with supervisors from other departements to ensure security standards / policies are being complied with and address deficiencies as necessary
  • Ensure critical areas security procedures are followed
  • Ensure security team maintains required First Aid/CPR qualifications

Physical Protection:
  • Ensure permiter security is maintained and access control measures are being utilized and adhered to.
  • Ensure the physical safety of employees, contractors and visitors
  • Coordinate with third party vendors to ensure security and asset protection (i.e. alarm monitoring, access control, CCTV)

Information Technology Security
  • Support Newmont Porcupine IT team to ensure network security is maintained and ensure compliance by security team with any IT related polices and procedures
  • Ensure physical protection of critical IT areas through access control measures

Security Administration
  • Conduct thorough investigations of any security occurrences including: policy breaches, safety incidents, thefts, accidents, damage or other similar matters.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate security guard performance to provide feedback to contract security provider nnd make necessary recommendations to ensure that a superior level of service is provided on Newmont Porcupine sites.
  • Assist administrative tasks as requested (i.e. invoices, budget)
  • Assist with threat risk assessments and security vulnerability assessments
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with municipal and provincial law enforcement agencies and any other stakeholders.
  • Replace Security Coordinator while they are away.
  • Oversee training and support security provider with any required training.

Leadership
  • Expected to take on a proactive leadership role within the security team
  • Promote and engage other members of the team to remain aligned with Newmont's strategic plan, vision and values.
  • Provide direction, mentoring, coaching and development opportunities for the security team.
  • Support and collaborate with North America security team, Newmont Porcupine Management Team, Employees, Contractors, and stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Superior communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and and analytical skills

Training & Experience

Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents
  • Education: Secondary school diplolma (or equivalency)
  • Post secondary education in related field is an asset (i.e: police foundations, criminology, law and security, etc.)
  • Formal training in security (i.e. CPO, CPP, PSP or similar recognized security designations) is an asset
  • Certification/education in information technology or security technology is an asset
  • Possess (or willing to obtain) security guard and private investigator licence for the Province of Ontario
  • Valid drivers license and a clean driving record

Working Experience - Nature & Length
  • Minimum 5 years experience in related field (security, law enforcement, compliance, military)
  • Investigative / law enforcement experience is an asset
  • Extensive experience with access control, CCTV and other physical security technology systems is an asset
  • Experience in training is an asset.

Leadership Experience - Nature & Length
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory / leadership role

  • If you do not live near our Porcupine mine site in Ontario, Canada, we will require you to relocate for this role.
  • You will work a 5X2 schedule
