Purpose
Employees in this position are responsible for the operations functions of the milling facilities and all associated processing facilities
Essential Duties
- Ensure production targets are met. Assist with the evaluation of capital projects. Perform budget and cost control. Conduct staff and safety meetings.
- Comment on plant design, production, and process, then initiate changes. Constantly seek out new 'best practices' and be able to present them to Managers and Directors.
- Set and maintain metallurgical operations standards.
- Read, comprehend, interpret and learn Mill Processing literature and technical data, Material Safety Data Sheets, labels on products, warning signs, instructional manuals, and numbers on monitors and gauges, to prevent loss of personnel, property and process.
- The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive. Ensure the department's compliance with the requirement of Government of Suriname's Agencies; Newmont Suriname's lending institutions, shareholders' interests, environmental health and safety legislation and company regulations.
Training & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and twelve (12) years experience or seventeen (17) years related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities.
- Metallurgical Engineering degree desired.
- Good computer skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work directly with others.
Working Conditions
- The Process Operations Superintendent must be able to work outside, in all weather conditions.
- The Process Operations Superintendent must wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, long sleeved shirts, gloves, or any other equipment to perform duties safely.
- Operate a light vehicle including a pre-operational inspection. Walk on rough, uneven, inclined, wet terrain, and climb stairs and ladders.
- Work on a schedule of 6 weeks (with 1 rest day per week) at 11-12 hours per day at a camp at mine site followed by 3 weeks of rest.
