The Tracked Products Engineering-Light Structures Team is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer in East Peoria, IL or Tucson, AZ. The role supports the Large Track Type Tractors, Hydraulic Mining Shovels and Surface Rock Drills and provides exposure to Light Structures through Analysis, Test, Manufacturing, and Supplier collaboration. The selected candidate will impact important Mining Products and associated teams toward continuous improvement.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Create concepts and direct the design and development of complex engineering projects for Light Structures.
  • Utilize Creo to create highly integrated designs within the machine platforms.
  • Utilize Creo Simulate to analyze designs to optimize durability and cost.
  • Manage the team's NPI design deliverables, product cost targets, product reliability goals, and drawing release quality.
  • Responsible for utilizing both on-site and offshore staff to manage workloads.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, global manufacturing facilities, engineering system teams and the core product groups to minimize total cost of ownership.
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum
  • 5+ years experience with Design, Test, or Analysis of Mobile Mining Equipment
  • Components and systems experience, preferably on TTTs


Top candidates will also have:
  • 3+ years design experience on fabricated structures
  • Completed ERDP rotational program or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to the Caterpillar product development
  • Demonstrated strong Caterpillar Values through teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Experience with NPI, CPI, APQP, Cost, and Teamcenter tools/process
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in Creo or other modeling or simulation tools
  • Experience collaborating with global engineering service providers
  • Hands-on experience (e.g. machinery, heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, welding, etc.)


Additional information:
  • Occasional travel to suppliers and dealers/customer sites is required (less than 5%)
  • Relocation is not available for this position
