The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Production Lead to join our Technical Department in Long Harbour, NL. This is a 12-month fixed-term position.

The Production Lead’s primary function is to monitor the plant’s performance, while working collaboratively site wide to help coordinate plant operation to ensure each shift sustains and builds production capability to achieve targets.

Assisting with a wide variety of tasks relating to both technical and operational support for the Long Harbour Processing Plant, the Production Lead will study aspects of operational efficiency, quantify and develop strategies for mitigating risk. In addition, the Lead will perform analysis, troubleshooting, optimization, process and data collection, quality monitoring, performance evaluation, mass balance preparation and plant operation coordination/planning.

In this position, you will:
  • Monitor plant system production performance and integrity; connect with the various groups to ensure processes are in place to sustain and build production capability, and meet targets outlined in the production plan;
  • Ensure that SafeProduction behaviors are being practiced and adhered to from all levels of the organization on the shift; coach any deficiencies identified;
  • Coordinate plant operations and process to meet production goals and allow for maintenance of equipment;
  • Attend daily production meetings, report on current plant operation, issue written shift reports and identify constraints;
  • Provide input for development and facilitate execution of annual and 5-year capital plans;
  • Support the development of execution plan strategies and implement operating plans for the area(s) of responsibility, taking into account, targets and related actions to reduce incident frequency rates, environmental performance, production output, quality, costs and capital expenditures;
  • Identify any required changes to the established production and/or maintenance schedules, that will impact either upstream or downstream customers;
  • Expand the capability of the area(s) of accountability, to achieve continuous improvement, while balancing the allocation of resources, meeting quantity and quality output requirements for the internal and/or external "Customers".
  • Verify compliance with established Service Level Agreements (SLA) and required standards;
  • Analyze in-control processes, identify common causes of variation and develop action plans to make the vital changes to correct the common causes;
  • Contribute to the implementation of new systems/processes and provide guidance, auditing, mentoring and analysis support to the management team;
  • Actively participate in the Corrective and Preventative Action Request (CAPAR) logging, investigation and closeout as required;
  • Aid in the implementation of changes vital to regain/sustain/build production capabilities.

About You
  • Post-secondary education within a related field;
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience;
  • Industrial and/or operating environment preferred;
  • Exhibit an obsession for safety and risk management through daily tasks and leadership;
  • Establish open and transparent dialogue across teams and the business;
  • Take ownership for the whole to prioritize sustainable solutions and efficiencies;
  • Strong understanding of process interdependency;
  • Ability to respond to process related questions with respect to plant constraints & recovery;
  • Empower people development with accountability and performance management;
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), as well as social skills;
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to work independently, as well as part of a team;
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, specifically Excel;
  • Able to work in a stressful environment, multitask, and meet deadlines;
  • Hydrometallurgical knowledge and experience an asset;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
