Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. In 2016, the site poured its seven millionth ounce of gold, 20 years into its mine life. The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.

This position will be based in the Tetlin/Tok area of Alaska, approximately 200 miles from Fairbanks.

Job Description

This position, based in the Tetlin/Tok, Alaska area, is to prepare the employee to be an independent Environmental Technician. In this position, the employee will learn about and assist in routine sampling and inspections. The employee will also develop a familiarity with site layout, facilities, tools and equipment used as an independent Environmental Technician. Communication, training, and interaction with other departments to assist with environmental compliance is an essential part of the Environmental Technician in Training's responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with site inspections.
  • Assist with collection of surface and groundwater samples.
  • Be familiar with the tools and equipment used.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Understand the site layout, sampling locations and facilities.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Education and Experience

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records

    Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.


  • Local familiarity preferred.
  • Must gain an understanding of sampling procedures, safety rules, company policies, emergency procedures, MSHA requirements, environmental regulations and guidance documents.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Preference for local residents of the Tetlin/Tok area.
