The Wheeled Products Engineering Light Fabrications team is currently seeking an experienced Design Engineer located in Decatur, IL, Peoria, IL, Aurora, IL or Tucson, AZ. The team has Light Fabrications design control for Large Mining Trucks, Large Wheel Loaders, Off Highway Trucks, Wheel Tractor Scrapers, Articulated Trucks and Hard Rock Vehicles and engineers on the team gain broad exposure to design, analysis, test, manufacturing and supplier collaboration. The selected candidate will play an important role in developing and continuously improving the features, quality and cost on multiple Wheeled Mining Products over time, but with an immediate focus on Off Highway Trucks.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

This is a design position on the Wheeled Product Engineering (WPE) Light Fabrications team with a primary focus on supporting the Off-Highway Truck (OHT) product group. Both new product design and design improvements to current products are in scope for all the major light fabrications subsystems (e.g. access systems, hoods, fenders, platforms, fuel tanks, guards, and enclosures). The type of component-level design in scope includes complex fabricated steel structures/weldments, bolted assemblies and non-metallic components. The engineering disciplines applicable include machine design, strength of materials, structural fatigue, advanced bolted joint design and noise/vibration/harshness (NVH).

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering
  • In lieu of a degree, 9+ years of progressive engineering experience
  • 3+ years of progressive engineering experience
Top candidates will also have:
  • Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering degree.
  • Previous experience designing light fabrications components.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in collaborative environment and to communicate effectively in cross functional teams.
  • Executed all phases of at least one major new product development program.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Experience directing the work of other design and detailing resources to achieve design goals.
  • Proficiency with solid modeling software (Creo preferred).
  • Personal experience performing component level FEA (Creo Simulate preferred).
  • Personal experience in executing APQP from beginning to end.
  • Hands-on experience (e.g. machinery, heavy equipment, manufacturing processes, welding, etc.)
