Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Underground Drill and Blast Engineer at our Goldstrike operations. This position will report to the Operations Superintendent and work an 8 on 6 off, day shift roster overseeing all drill and blast activities on site. The successful candidate will supervise the four rotating drill and blast crews at Goldstrike Underground and be responsible for day to day execution of the long hole open stope drilling and blasting activities. Responsibilities:

  • Working cooperatively with design engineering teams to develop and improve plans and procedures.
  • Manage both operators and supervisors involved in drilling and blasting activities.
  • Leading cost saving initiatives.
  • Build and maintain drill and blast cost models
  • Measure and improve blast performance using various KPI's
  • Managing reliability of the centralized blasting systems
  • Contribute to and coordinate training for both underground operations and technical services personnel in drill and blast techniques.
  • Administer QA/QC of drilling and blasting activities.
  • Assist with selections and application of explosive products
  • Other projects associated with a progressive underground mining environment


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining, Engineering or related field required
  • Must have previous experience supervising and directing drill and blast activities.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in underground mining engineering preferred
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with other departments to optimize the plans of current and future mining activities
  • Excellent safety record with the ability to demonstrate safety leadership required
  • Ability to get BATF clearance to handle explosives required
  • Experience using Vulcan, Deswik, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • Team leader, problem solver and excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to cross-train with the mining engineering group required

About Nevada Gold Mines

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018.
