Position Summary:

The Hatch Infrastructure group is seeking a Highways and Bridges Engineer-in-Training with interest in Transportation & Logistics. Reporting to the Bridges and Structures Lead you will support projects globally based out of our Vancouver location.

As a Highway Bridge Engineer based in Vancouver you will be involved on a range of small to large projects which are industry and public high profile. The role will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer fantastic opportunities for skill set and career development. You will be required to work within a growing team carrying out bridge feasibility works, design, and assessment and strengthening depending upon project requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with project engineers and other project team members on design, tender, and construction deliverables;
  • Perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations to include 2D and 3D analysis for bridges as well as foundations, infrastructure and retaining walls;
  • Develop structural details and construction plans;
  • Preparation of standard documentation – reports, specs, drawings, spreadsheets, letters, etc.
  • Conducting design check and quality audit of drawings and contract documents;
  • Coordination of structural work with work of other disciplines.
  • Use analysis and design softwares (e.g. SAP2000, Concise Beam, Excel, MathCAD) in course of work;


Qualifications:

  • Civil or Structural Engineering Degree from an accredited university;
  • Entry level experience in the design of bridges and experience with the Canadian Highway Bridge Code or AASHTO;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, industry standard bridge design and analysis software; familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is an asset;
  • Experience in preliminary design and detailed design of new bridges and rehabilitation of existing bridge; steel and concrete structures;
  • Strong desire to learn and involvement with highway improvement projects especially design build / P3 delivery
  • Demonstrated ability in meeting project deliverables and requirements;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential;
