About the role

We are looking for a tenacious Senior Water Systems Engineer who will oversee water and solute balance during detailed design, construction and operation and provide expert advice to the project design team.

Reporting to the Manager Processing, you will be responsible for:
  • Managing the collection of data by from the various sources and review of the data quality obtained and provide feedback on the implications of the data to the key project stakeholders.
  • Managing the use of that data by various engineering service providers who are providing project design and be the single source of project water management related data.
  • Identifying inefficiencies in the proposed water management systems, identifying problems in the water and solute balance model and provide recommendations for improving the business case.
  • Identifying potential issues / conflicts with permitting and approvals process and in particular understand the constraints that permit conditions will have the on the process design.
  • Setup to take over responsibility for water and solute modeling in execution phase and beyond into operations.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Solid knowledge of water / solute modelling and model set up.
  • Experience in complex operational industrial water and solute facilities as well as project design, focusing on RO, MF / UF and Zero Liquid Discharge will be highly regarded
  • Experience in optimization of mine and plant systems.
  • Experience with GoldSim, OPSIM, METSIM / SYSCAD / IDEAS and hydrological modelling software will be highly regarded, and in particular those models where sulphate, boron and lithium are present.
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (chemical, civil, hydrological) or Science (chemistry or geology)
  • Ideally 8+ years of experience in similar role
  • An excellent communicator of technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in both English and Serbian.

Where you will be working

The Jadar project is a greenfield Underground mine and process plant development located approximately 12km south-east of Loznica, Serbia. An underground mine, comprising of a production shaft, exhaust shaft, development levels, access to production stopes, mobile mining equipment and associated infrastructure. The process plant is designed to produce boric acid, lithium carbonate and sodium sulfate.

Jadar project commenced the feasibility study in Aug 2020. The project business strategy is to develop Jadar as a core, Tier 1 asset with synergies with Rio Tinto Business, enabling a green future and creating value for both Rio Tinto and Serbia. The project execution goal is to derive maximum value from Jadar for its stakeholders, while also delivering on the promised outcomes.

Where you will be working

The Jadar Project is a world-class lithium-borate deposit discovered by Rio Tinto in 2004. Jadar is a unique deposit near the town of Loznica, Serbia. It contains Jadarite - a new lithium sodium borosilicate mineral. Jadar is the only place in the world where this mineral can be found. Jadar has been ranked as one of the largest lithium deposits in the world with a potential to supply a significant amount of the global demand for lithium and boric acid. If developed, Jadar will be a modern underground mine with efficient processing and shipping facilities.

The project's team office is in Belgrade, Serbia, a cosmopolitan European Capital on the Danube River.
