The Mechanical & Piping Group is a Hatch global practice providing mechanical and piping engineering design expertise to Hatch's commodity-based business practices. Our capability spans through the whole project lifecycle comprising; scoping, conceptual design, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering, construction and project management.

The Hatch Perth office is seeking applications from Intermediate Mechanical Designers to assist with an increasing workload that includes work on challenging and interesting Projects. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative engineering team providing engineering services and field support.

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Lead, you will be required to carry out mechanical design tasks in accordance with both Project requirements and Hatch standards, whilst always adhering to and promoting the company safety culture and values.

We are looking for technically competent individuals with excellent communication skills as the roles requires someone to effectively coordinate with other designers and multidiscipline engineers to complete their work and successfully contribute to achieving Project milestones.

Some of the key responsibilities of these roles will include (but are not exhaustive):

  • Understand the owner/user requirements and the project mission
  • Adhere to and promote the company safety culture
  • Perform the design and drafting of mechanical plant models using applicable standards, project technical specifications and enterprise or project procedures
  • Prepare 3D equipment modelling and 3D design
  • Use vendor drawings and information sheets to develop the model
  • Produce General Arrangement (GA) and equipment location drawings under supervision
  • PFD/P&ID drafting in an intelligent software package
  • Developing engineering design details and special items drawings
  • Using vendor drawings and information sheets to develop the model


Qualifications, Skills and Experience we are looking for:

  • Advanced Diploma of Engineering or equivalent (mechanical preferred)
  • Solid mechanical design and modelling experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience within a multidisciplinary EPCM environment
  • Ability to take instruction and work unsupervised at times
  • Proficient in the use of 2D CAD systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
