Introduction to Bisha Mining Share Company

BMSC is an Eritrean company formed for the development and operation of the Bisha Mine in western Eritrea, Africa.  The Bisha Mine is a high-grade copper, gold, silver and zinc mine that commenced production in February 2011. The Bisha Mine has received continuous support from the Eritrean government, who granted the Company's mining license in January 2008. The project is the first modern mine in Eritrea.   

After two years of low cost gold production, the Bisha Mine transitioned to low-cost, high-grade copper production in 2013.  Starting in 2016, Bisha also produces zinc concentrate. Further resource potential exists at depth and from nearby discoveries within the Company's licensed areas.

The site is a well-established site with excellent catering and recreational facilities. The site also offers Wi-Fi internet coverage throughout the village as well international TV and a full gymnasium. Security ranks with best in the world and employees mountain bike freely.  Expatriates work a roster of 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off; we offer on-site medical services as well as company medical, accident death and disability and life insurance (employee only); Employees are provided with private rooms with en-suite toilet and shower facilities; Working hours at Bisha are Monday to Saturday from 6am to 6pm with a one hour lunch break and Sundays from 6am to 12pm with the afternoon off.

The successful candidate will earn a salary which is market related. Contract is for a period of 02 (two) Years.

Primary Purpose

  • Supervises and coordinates HME staff and all work tasks in the HME section.
  • Performs review of work carried out by subordinates, preparing daily and regular reports and ensuring that reconciliations are properly carried out.
  • Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of the Engineering HME section policies, projects and procedures.
  • Coordinates, and determines priorities of work load, monitors levels of resources, establishing time lines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommends changes and suggestions, writes, reviews and edits reports prepared by staff, and approves completed projects and reports.
  • Implements controls for appropriate staffing and effectiveness and ensures staff are trained appropriately for maximum performance, and provides leadership and guidance.
  • Provides stakeholder service by completing information requests, conducts research, providing solutions to problems, and correcting errors.
  • Facilitates solutions to problems facing the department.
  • Represents the department on special projects and issues.
  • Champions the values of the company through example and accountabilities.
  • Actively pursue training and development of subordinate staff and ensuring staff development plans are in place.

Planning

  • Participates in suggesting new ideas/proposals, as well as encouraging others to improve the HME Engineering Division operation.
  • Involved with the budget implementation and maintenance planning to ensure mining targets are able to be met.
  • Coordinates, and determines priorities of work load, monitors levels of resources, establishing time lines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommends changes and suggestions, writes, reviews and edits reports prepared by staff, and approves completed projects and reports. 

Implementation

  • Overall responsibility to ensure all maintenance and repairs on HME restart primary equipment is completed in line with plans to achieve operational targets.
  • Ensure safety requirements are fulfilled at the work place, including leading Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) and proper use of PPE. Report all safety issues/incidents with area of responsibility.
  • Comply with mine’s cardinal rules and other safety, environmental or other rules and standards as directed. Ensure all hazards and risks are identified, reported and eliminated.
  • Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of the Engineering HME section policies, projects and procedures.
  • Implements controls for appropriate staffing and effectiveness and ensures staff are trained appropriately for maximum performance, and provides leadership and guidance.
  • Provides stakeholder service by completing information requests, conducts research, providing solutions to problems, and correcting errors.
  • Track parts orders to ensure procedures are completed.
  • Actively pursue training and development of subordinate staff and ensuring staff development plans are in place. 

Reporting and Data Control

  • Ensure Navision data and CAT SIMS is captured and updated
  • On the job training of planners & schedulers
  • Carry out ICAM investigations if necessary and ensure any issues arising from such are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Performs review of work carried out by subordinates, preparing daily and regular reports and ensuring that reconciliations are properly carried out.
  • Represents the department on special projects and issues. 

Other Information

  • Provide technical support for the team, as and when required.
  • Provide training and mentoring for the team (especially safety standards and procedures).
  • Ensure all personnel work in accordance with local laws, BMSC regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates solutions to problems facing the department. 

Unique Requirements/ Other Information

Self-starter able to lead multinational group of mechanics and boilermakers to effect restart of primary HME equipment back into service as per mine plan. Solid understanding of mining needs and related equipment requirements.

Specific Project Deliverables:

  • Overall project management as listed below
    • Responsibility for truck and excavator availability as per the annual Budget is the priority.
    • Responsibility for drilling and ancillary availability as per the annual Budget to attain production targets is the other priority
  • HME improvement strategy implementation
  • Provide R&R covery within the HME team as requested.
  • A key focus is to operate 100% within and using the BMSC preventative maintence  system and fully utilise and embed the HME system in the team.

  Qualifications:

  • HME Diesel Mechanic Trade certificate, National Diploma

  Knowledge and Experience:

  • 15 years open pit HME experience 
  • 8 years Caterpillar maintenance experience
  • 8 years supervisory experience with multi nationals
