Role Details

Gold Fields - Agnew is currently seeking a Unit Manager: Technical Services to lead their Mining department.

Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the operating tactical plan and securing the future of mining operations through the development and provision of technical and planning standards, procedures and direction to achieve an optimal mine production profile through a holistic approach, combining planning and production processes.

This role is offered on a 8 days on 6 days off, 4 days on 3 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner than seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are understood & part of how we do things
  • Actively promote and promote our Values and Code of Conduct
  • Develop a high performing technical team through individual and group development including the robust mentoring of Engineers
  • Provide leadership in the Life of Mine, Resource & Reserve and Budget planning cycles to support the achievement of strategic and tactical objectives for the site. Ensure that relevant involvement from specific mining disciplines are considered and communicated to appropriate parties
  • Assist Underground Manager to achieve operating KPIs by optimized plans and schedules, regular reporting and advising on mining OEE, stope and schedule reconciliations and involvement in business improvement programs
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to support long-term decision making within their own fields of expertise by actively participating in scoping and feasibility studies as required within the business
  • Manage the development and maintenance of mining systems, including documenting practices and procedures and providing feedback on effectiveness of these systems to the Mining Manager
  • Ensure professional application of all technical disciplines to deliver optimized mine designs and schedules, including geotechnical, ventilation, service reticulation, and backfill aspects
  • Monitor, audit and test technical systems to ensure the mine is operating at industry best practice.


Key factors to your success include;
  • Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering
  • 3 - 5 years in a similar operational management position
  • At least 10 + years operational experience - preferably gold
  • Highly developed knowledge of both Underground and Open Pit Mining Standards
  • Exposure to different mining methods and associated economics
  • Business/Management qualification i.e. Mineral Economics would be an advantage
  • Successful track record in a similar role within underground and open pit mining
