The Opportunity

We are currently seeking 2 Maintenance Coordinators (Service Team) to join our Long Harbour Operations Team in Long Harbour, NL. These are permanent positions.

Focused on mechanical maintenance, the Coordinator is responsible for leading a Service Team composed of technical personnel including pipefitters, millwrights, welders, and industrial coating specialists to ensure proper operation of plant equipment and processes, in compliance with Vale standards and world class best practices. Interfacing with Maintenance and Operations personnel, this position is a critical component to ensure plant efficiency is optimized without impact to safety, the environment, or the community.

In this position you will:
  • Utilize SafeProduction tools in field discussions and exhibit behaviors of Safe Production and consider how to consistently achieve ALARA when executing tasks. Achieve compliance with monthly safety plan (quantity and quality) and follow notification protocols for incidents and injuries;
  • Execute all approved maintenance work orders in accordance with maintenance procedures with respect to work methods, resource requirements, materials, and established scheduling deadlines and ensure that all executed work packages are in accordance with established safety policies and procedures to safely operate without impact to employees, the business, the environment, and the community;
  • Utilize established Work Management systems to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of work and utilize the system to continuously improve work procedures;
  • Assign work in compliance with daily and weekly schedules and deviate for urgent work only as prescribed within the framework of established maintenance policies and procedures;
  • Work closely with Area Maintenance Planners to ensure that work methods detailed in planned work packages maximize safety and efficiency while minimizing cost and ensure that work packages are cost effective by minimizing waste and identifying improvement opportunities in the utilization of resources and materials;
  • Responsible within their area of accountability to directly supervise and assign work to maintenance technicians and to ensure that all work is carried out effectively and efficiently, on time, and on budget and in compliance with all safety policies and procedures and that all work is of the highest quality;
  • Manage emergency and breakdown situations independently, drawing on external resources only as required, by leading troubleshooting, problem identification, materials procurement, and resource allocation to correct the situation as efficiently and effectively as possible to minimize production impact within the framework of established maintenance policies and procedures;
  • Ensure that all maintenance documentation is maintained and that all changes in documentation are reflected in the CMMS through liaison with Area Maintenance Planners;
  • Provide, as required, Shutdown supervision in areas as required by the Maintenance Superintendent;
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Engineering, Technical Services, and Operations on capital and maintenance projects to perform all such work efficiently with minimal disruption to production operations;
  • Ensure that all work is completed through established Management of Change policies and procedures;


About You
  • Post-secondary education within a related field;
  • Red Seal Interprovincial Journeyperson Millwright or Pipefitter, Technician or Technologist Certification;
  • A combination of 5 - 7 years’ experience; hands-on technical maintenance work and/or supervision in a complex industrial environment preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating maintenance work planning activities an asset;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered;
  • Excellent organization, communication (written and oral), as well as interpersonal skills;
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience with SAP an asset;
  • Strong Analytical and troubleshooting skills.
