Reporting to the Finance Supervisor, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for supporting all administrative accounting functions with a focus on Accounts Payables activities as well as providing administrative support associated with day to day operations.

This position is based out of the Galore Creek Mining Corporation Head Office in Vancouver.

Located in northwestern British Columbia, Galore Creek is one of the world’s largest undeveloped porphyry copper-gold-silver deposits. Accounting Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont);
  • Manage PO process in the PRISM procurement module by raising PO’s from approved requisitions, performing 3-way matches, entering invoices against PO’s and updating outstanding commitments for cost report forecasting;
  • Code vendor invoices in accordance with budgets and approved Purchase Orders;
  • Prepare vendor invoices for payment processing by the A/P team;
  • Work with vendors to resolve payment discrepancies and outstanding balances, and assist the Project Team with work completion estimates for cost tracking;
  • Assist in maintaining SOX compliance with regards to A/P document flows, records management, and segregation of duties;
  • Assist in developing and implementing financial processes and procedures;
  • Prepare and post month end and ad-hoc journal entries;
  • Prepare month end financial statement package including Trial Balance, Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Cashflows;
  • Prepare monthly account and credit card statement reconciliations;
  • Prepare monthly GST Netfile Returns;
  • Assist with preparation of the detailed annual consolidated budget schedule; and
  • Assist with other adhoc activities as assigned.


Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Create and track supply orders from vendors;
  • Assist with travel coordination for staff and contractors from the Vancouver office;
  • Represent Galore Creek through answering phone calls, emails, and general inquiries;
  • Perform office related duties such as document management, copying, scanning, etc. to ensure the efficient operation of the office;
  • Assist with preparing and scheduling meetings;
  • Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace; and
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the project team and contribute to creating a positive workplace environment.


Project Finance:
  • Opportunity to be a Prism power user and become familiar with the Cost Control/Project Controls function, to assist with cost controls, scheduling, change management, progress and performance, forecasting and variance analysis;
  • Opportunity to assist in developing project investment / financial models to support asset-based valuations, trade-off assessments, project planning, forecasting, and quantitative analysis; and
  • Opportunity to assist in the development of performance metrics.


Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration, with preference for candidates working towards a CPA designation;
  • Knowledge of Accounts Payable (A/P) procedures and best practices to ensure accuracy and timely processing;
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is preferred;
  • Experience in full cycle accounting processes in an ERP systems environment;
  • Strong spreadsheet skills (e.g. pivot table) using Microsoft Excel for analysis;
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and a strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task, solve problems and suggest solutions, and meet tight deadlines;
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated prioritization and time management skills;
  • Previous experience working as an Administrative Assistant is an asset;
  • Advanced written and oral English;
  • Critical and conceptual thinking with problem solving skills;
  • Vision and strategy with innovative thinking; and
  • Ability to lead, develop, and work within a team
