Purpose

As a key member of the Engineering team and reporting into the Manager Engineering, the Superintendent Electrical is accountable for the installation, management, safe operation and maintenance of the electrical systems and associated control equipment in a world class operating plant.

Key Accountabilities and Challenges

·      Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.

·      Develop standard safe working procedures and actively participate in HSE initiatives.

·      Ensure employees work in compliance with H&S (e.g. isolation, lock out and tag out), quality and environmental standards and procedures.

·      Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

·      Provide input to shutdown planning in coordination with Planners so plant availability is maximized and use of contractor resources minimized.

·      Ensure the use of best practise maintenance techniques and procedures for the optimum performance of electrical systems and control equipment.

·      Manage and coordinate daily corrective actions through formal workplace inspections.

·      Ensure that equipment maintenance plans are created and implemented.

·      Ensure all preventive and predictive maintenance plans are in accordance with the needs of the operation, that activities are planned and scheduled via a computerized maintenance management system.

·      Oversee the execution of maintenance plans for the Electrical department making use of appropriate diagnostic techniques developed through your extensive knowledge of the process plant and equipment.

·      Manage the database of Electrical maintenance activities of work performed.

·      Report in detail on maintenance activities and performance indicators.

·      Systematically develop methods, materials, tools and parts so downtime is minimal.

·      Ensure economical spares inventories are established and maintained to meet production requirements mindful of component wear and tear.

·      Actively seek alternative suppliers to meet quality and cost targets.

·      Provide technical and managerial support for the electrical maintenance personnel on a daily basis to maximize production and efficiencies and optimize costs.

·      Manage budget for planned maintenance, equipment upgrades and plant parts inventory.

·      Review plant design for de-bottlenecking and provide efficiency/operability improvements and financial justification for related capital projects.

·      Evaluate the performance of equipment to identify and initiate development opportunities.

·      Enforce housekeeping standards in all designated work areas.

·      Ensure that shift manning requirements are met. Participate in the interviewing, hiring, training and development in an effort to retain and develop the best talent for the organization.

·      Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, providing feedback and coaching to achieve business plans and production goals.

·      Work with Human Resources and Engineering management to identify training opportunities that provide depth and versatility for all new and advancing maintenance employees. Assess training and development needs, develop plans and establish performance metrics to meet those needs, and provide on-going assessment tools to ensure desired results are achieved.

·      Promote a positive employee environment ensuring a continuation of a solid working relationship with all employees.

·      Ensure open communication is developed and maintained with Managers and Superintendents (Planning, Engineering, Process and Commercial) to ensure the Electrical equipment and systems of a metallurgical process plant operates according to SOP’s and all machinery/equipment is maintained, calibrate and replaced according to supplier recommendation and industry best practice within determined budgets and ready to meet demand.

·      Maintains current knowledge of equipment and materials through self-study and training.

·      Implement FQM Way culture across the team â€" “Smarter, Bolder, Driven, Togetherâ€.

·      Act as deputy for colleagues as required.

·      Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager Engineering.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
·      Education

·      A Tertiary Qualification in Electrical Engineering and/or related Trade Certificate recognised by JTIA.

·      Skills

·      Strong leadership, motivational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

·      Excellent cognitive and analytical skills for identifying maintenance shortfalls, equipment bottlenecks and implementing corrective and preventative action plans.

·      Excellent knowledge of electrical theory and terminology and the mathematics/basic algebra used in electrical calculations.

·      Proven ability to identify, analyse and understand equipment requirements.

·      Strong understanding of maintenance process improvement and control strategies.

·      Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for large-scale, continuous operating mineral processing plants.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to analyze data and provide clear and accurate operational maintenance performance reports in both an upward and downward direction.

·      Computer fluency is a must.

·      Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

·      Experience

·    5-10 years of experience in industrial, distribution, and/or generation electrical systems.

·      Minimum 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience.

·      Extensive experience with National Regulations (NFPA 70) and best industry practices including NEC, IEEE, and NFPA70E standards.

·      Experience in switchgear, medium voltage VSD and gearless drives.

·      Significant experience in a large, complex base metals processing plant.

·      Knowledge of JDEdwards or other enterprise systems.

·      Experienced in the use of maintenance management systems

·      Language

Fluency in Spanish and English is highly regarded. A willingness to undertake language training is desirable.

Working Conditions
Cobre Panama is a remote site. The position is offered as Residential or FIFO.
