Position Overview

Kiewit's Power Delivery department has an exciting opportunity for a new Utility Telecommunications Engineer in our Lenexa, KS office to design and coordinate telecommunications infrastructure projects. The Telecommunications Engineer will be responsible for engineering and technical oversight of communications network designs and associated subsystems.

Location

This position is based out of Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

Major responsibilities for the Telecommunications Engineer will include:
• Work with the Telecommunications Engineering team to understand scope, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates
• Collaborate on the design of utility based Telecom systems
• Develop documents, drawings / diagrams, specifications, and testing procedures under the guidance of a senior engineer
• Collaborate with the team to map out communication network using equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, multiplexers, radios utilizing client standards
• Design networks using fiber optics, microwave, radio, or leased services utilizing client standards
• Generate bills of material for Telecommunication equipment and verify field installations
• Assist with writing project scope(s), sequencing plans, client roadmaps, and budgets
• Travel to the job site as needed to gather information and to coordinate with the client
• Work with others to stage and plan installation and commissioning
• Respond to information requests from the client and from internal design teams
• Attend external and internal meetings to support processes
• Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited program
  • 0-2 years of design experience on communication systems
  • Capable of applying knowledge of telecommunication and IP networking principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, yet a team player
  • Flexibility to work in related business lines if required
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred
  • Previous utility company experience is optional
