Wood is currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant to join our office in Calgary.
Main Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation of legal function records and procedures including:
- RFP/RFQ for external counsel,
- Due diligence reporting for external counsel,
- Issuance of terms of engagement for external counsel,
- L-curve reports
- Maintenance of relevant Delegations of Authority,
- Request for settlement authority and requests to commence litigation,
- In conjunction with Legal Operations:
- Establishing, maintaining, and releasing Legal Holds
- Ensuring minimal scope in relation to legal holds,
- Updating and maintaining litigation and serious issue registers,
- In conjunction with Company Secretariat,
- Issuance and tracking of Powers of Attorney
- Assisting with the Subsidiaries, Incorporation and Maintenance Procedure submissions,
- E stablish, update, and maintain an electronic filing system within the secure legal server. To include:
- Establishing new and ongoing files , and potentially opening important historic file s and ensuring they are complete.
- Separately f ile hard copy materials as required
- Maintain and update, as required, the legal action tracker and initiate new files, as required.
- Open the email files in Oasys (email filing system), u pdate and maintain Oasys
- Ensure filing of supported lawyer emails within Oasys
- Prepare correspondence, as required.
- Maintain letter precedents
- Maintain retainer/terms of engagement precedents
- Maintain other precedents.
- Familiarise self with the relevant, different, financial systems used to process payments to legal vendors, p rocess legal accounts and maintain a payment database.
- Track legal spend on budgeted matters,
- Book travel arrangements and prepare expenses,
- Assist with registration and payment of L aw S ociety dues and other professional association costs and maintain professional files including CPD records.
- Maintenance of supported lawyer outlook and BF systems;
Skills / Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate as legal assistant
- Minimum 5 years experience as a legal assistant in a litigation practice
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada at time of application
