Senior Database Geology Specialist

An international operator focused on growth through exploration is currently broadening their base in Africa by hiring a skilled support to their Database Manager termed the Senior Database Geology Specialist.

This individual will work on a 6/3 African FIFO roster and will oversee: 

• Migration of surface and drilling data in AcQuire GIMS and further support the development of the new system database
• Manage the Exploration drill hole and sampling data management processes
• Database construction, data loading, QAQC, product availability
• Operate the various exploration data sets within the Corporation’s GIS software in order to extract maximum exploration value from the data;
• Implementation of Spatial Data Management. (ESRI GIS) and coordinate reference system with Geomatic team
• Collaboration with Exploration management and teams on optimizing, implementing and sustaining data standards
• Ensure optimally configured, secure and regularly backed up database infrastructure.
• Provide relevant stakeholders in the Exploration with secure access to the drill hole and sampling databases. (Datashed)
• Provide training and guidance to the exploration and project geoscientists.
• Participation in best practice and knowledge sharing - Exploration and Geoscience community.
• Documentation of systems and procedures to ensure system sustainability and efficient disaster recovery
• Oversee and organize sample dispatch to the laboratory and tracking of turnaround      
• Monitor and complete quality control of assay data in a timely fashion
• Identify and address all sampling or data quality issues - liaise with the laboratories accordingly.
• Load, manage and validate all key data in the project Datashed database (Troubleshot and resolve data management issues encountered during data loading and identify potential workaround for defects and/or enhancement
• Provides contribution to the technical reports
• Ensure identified data capturing and management risks are integrated into overall exploration projects design and deliverables
• Conduct geological data management risk assessments and compile risk management plans
• Seek additional specialist advice if and when necessary to resolve sampling or data quality issues
