With the improving outlook for the mining sector, SFTP Mining has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Project Manager Load & Haul to join our contract mining team. SFTP provides contract mining services in Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal and Ivory Coast to top tier mining houses.  New projects are coming on line in 2021 and we require exceptional leaders to join this expanding business. 

The PM’s Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily site Load and Haul operations.
  • Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) is emphasized throughout all phases of the project.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual targets and requirements to the client while defending the interests of the company and in line with the company’s strategy.
  • Reviewing SFTP Mining’s site work practices, processes, systems, policies and procedures to identify continuous improvement opportunities in areas of selecting, standardizing, and implementing the most cost and time efficient mining services.
  • Liaise closely with the Client regarding establishing mining plans and the Client’s production requirements and ensure allocation and availability of appropriate resources to achieve production plans.
  • Responsible for all site activities supporting the Client’s mining effort.
  • Review all site equipment with a focus on ensuring that they meet standards requirements in terms of safety, reliability, cost improvement and adhere to SFTP’s policies, procedures and standards.
  • Updates and adjustments to site operations based on SFTP’s strategic business plan.
  • Assist Operations Manager to prepare capital budget and Capital Expenditure Forms (CAPEX), continuously monitor and regularly report on performance and achievement of expected targets.
  • Report actual site operational costs against budget, analyze variances and recommend action plans.
  • Drive continuous cost saving incentives.
  • Ensure up to date, accurate, and quality documentation is kept relating to site operations including systems, processes, workflows, and position description responsibilities.
  • Prepare and perform a risk analysis in terms of compliance with the mining industry standards.
  • Prepare and provide in a timely fashion, supporting documentation for internal or external auditors.
  • Responsible for the overview of scheduling and allocation of site staff and resources (equipment and facilities) to ensure all mining activities are achieved in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

People & Culture/ Mining Team Development

As PM, you will manage the site operations and lead your team which will greatly contribute to the overall success of SFTP Mining. To do so, you will:

  • Oversee day to day management of SFTP site operations
  • Review and update the site organigram for site regularly
  • Review and update the Mining department’s position descriptions (including roles and responsibilities) for site regularly.
  • Provide management, guidance, coaching and act as a technical reference and support to the site operations team.
  • Overview all staff ensuring work outputs are in line with operational needs, strategic plans and budgets.
  • Manage, mentor and train site personnel in the best work practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the site operations team to identify areas requiring improvement and implement training and coaching measures to ensure your staff receive sufficient training enabling them to perform their duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Promote and develop the skills of subordinates through the transfer of technology and skill development through on-the-job training programs.
  • Conduct formal career development discussions with your staff and identify development opportunities and programs that assist with defining future career progression possibilities.
  • Develop capability plans for each team member and identify high potential personnel for development, allowing efficient execution of a succession plan.
  • Observe and monitor staff performance to ensure safe and efficient operations; and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Support SFTP Mining’s wider people related goals and objectives.
  • Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between all team members and related departments.

Applications are sought from experienced Mine Project Managers who have the following qualifications and skills

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mine Engineering or an equivalent combination of operations training and experience.
  • Significant experience in contract mining operations management, with significant practical and technical mining experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mining operations or contract mining.
  • Minimum 5 years should be at a management level in mining.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in developing countries (Africa).
  • French (written and spoken) is an asset;

Roster and Conditions

Salary is market related. Roster is on a 7 on 3 off cycle with one day included each side for travel.
