Position Description:

Accountable for the support, development, improvement, and reliability of the various facets f the mobile, exploration, development, fixed plant automation systems in a safe, productive, and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that you and your fellow workers work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations of this company
  • Ensure all hazards are reported in accordance with the relevant procedures and appropriate remedial action implemented in a timely manner
  • Work with various key stakeholders for the advancement and implementation of tele remote, autonomous and automation systems for the Underground environment in the areas of Mobile, Exploration and Fixed Plant systems
  • Assist with design, prototyping and commissioning of automated machinery and processes
  • Assist with project reporting, risk identification, scheduling and execution through OEM and subcontractors
  • Work closely with stakeholder teams and be actively involved in a wide range of engineering support and design functions
  • Review advances in industry and technology to evaluate possible new solutions and applications
  • Prepare plans and specifications as well as detailed engineering deliverable (P&ID's, localization drawings, I/O, loop and motor control schemes, cable and instrument lists, installations details).
  • Draft reports, specifications, including construction and procurement specifications, and calls for tenders in the form of RFP's
  • Provide technical assistance during construction work (electrical/instrumentation).
  • Perform inspections or technical surveys on-site
  • Participate in and advise teams on programming standards (PLC, operator interfaces, SCADA).
  • Work with various stakeholders to develop a weekly work plan to support the automation system and the underground electrical department
  • Maintain communication to work effectively with all areas of mining and maintenance departments to successfully coordinate production performance from the automation system
  • Develop and assist in the coordination of maintenance planning and scheduling for the automation system equipment and ensure that all infrastructure and assets are input into the SAP system tracked as per equipment PM regulations and complaint to Barrick MMS
  • Monitor compliance with the maintenance and operation of the Automine (or equivalent) log system, where all the system changes, repairs, parts used or need to be ordered are documented for proper searching criteria and all necessary testing and repairs are documents as per Regulations
  • Work with the team to develop critical and ongoing list of spare parts and have placed in inventory as required
  • Attend mining production and maintenance team meetings as required; coordinate all relevant activities with other departments and provide regular automation system updates to the area stakeholders on a monthly basis or as required
  • Liaise with OEM and vendor suppliers to obtain required technical support, maintain strict adherence to their protocols and standards and parts supply chain for automation system production performance
  • Work with the Electrical, Mechanical, Reliability, Engineering, Tech Services and Mining teams to assist in reporting/tracking of both the progress and the value of improvement initiatives that are undertaken within the automation fleet.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Engineering in automated manufacturing, electrical engineering, or other equivalent training
  • No Less than 4 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in design instrumentation and control
  • Experience in at least one or more of the Siemens, Rockwell, Omron control system programming environments (PLC, HMI, VFD)
  • Interest or relevant experience in automation and instrumentation
  • Asset: Participated in the detailed engineering for a mining project or in the energy sector
  • Appropriate credentials and certifications
  • Highly Flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Knowledge of SAP, inventor control and inventory systems for parts management would be an asset
