We are looking for a Road Maintenance Worker to come on board with us in the Milford Road Alliance, which is a long-term collaboration between Downer and Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency.

About the role:

This role is an important part of the Milford Road Alliance. The Alliance is a combination of both NZ Transport Agency and Downer NZ staff based in Te Anau whose sole focus is the Milford road. This includes routine and cyclic works, emergency works, the avalanche control programme, winter road maintenance, the Homer tunnel and incident response.

In this role you will be a Downer employee but dedicated to work within the Alliance team to aid in the effective maintenance and management of 120km of State Highway 94 (The Milford Road), from Te Anau to Milford Sound with much of the route inside the Fiordland National park. Working in Fiordland with its extremes of weather and terrain is challenging - so your sole focus will be on the Milford Road only.

You will be responsible for undertaking programmed inspections of The Milford Road. You could find yourself driving through the tunnel each day carrying out sign maintenance, sweeping and working on pavement repairs to maintain the road to a high standard for our road users . Opportunities will arise to work on projects as we improve assets along the route. During the winter season, you will also be ploughing snow and spreading grit along our roads and working within the Milford Road Avalanche Program.

• Minimum Class 2 of New Zealand's driving license with the ability to operate a manual vehicle
