About the role

This role Principal Advisor EPCM Contracts is to provide mentoring and a leadership role to drive and support project's process, health safety and environment requirements and business improvement initiatives. Work with a variety of contract management concepts, practices, and procedures and to lead a short, long-term projects including an ability to proactively manage and execute changes.

Working a 5 Day On /2 Day Off residential or 4 Week On/2 Week Off - FIFO roster and reporting to the Manager Project Procurement and Contracts, you will:
  • Supervise and develop team members responsible for the procurement and contract management of packages
  • Ensure Project's Procurement and Contracts Plan is adhered to and updated in relation to the development and management of EPCM works packages, manage all commercial aspects of the EPCM Services contract
  • Interface with, and strategic input into, EPCM Contracts and Procurement team, and Owners Project Management team to identify, agree and implement appropriate procurement strategies including clear timeframes/ milestones to ensure that the Company's commercial position is optimised
  • Provide support to EPCM Procurement and Contracts team in the preparation of market engagement documents and oversight over the post award contract management activities
  • Hold multiple stakeholder parties accountable for deliverables and participation during the end to end contract management process
  • Review and authorize all documents for pre-award and post award activities, in particular, contract change requests and associated Variations from EPCM.
  • Input into EPCM Claims strategy and management and manage the process for resolving contractor claims and disputes escalated
  • Ensure that the mandated contract management system (Omnicom) is utilised and updated by EPCM with information on Project status/ actions, project reports and documents

What you'll bring
  • Degree and / or Postgraduate Qualification in Law or Business/ Commerce
  • Have 10+ years of contracts and commercial management experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work within multi-disciplinary, multi-country project teams
  • Demonstrate a high degree of contractual and commercial acumen to apply large value, complex capital projects
  • Proven ability to negotiate, interpret and apply contracts and commercial documentation, including assessment of commercial risk

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Ability to analyze situations and information and formulate a plan of action
  • Contractor claim and dispute resolution experience

Where you'll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
