Radiation Protection Surveyor

Candu Energy Inc. are looking for a Radiation Protection Surveyor. The position will provide an essential service to facilitate the safe operation of Candu licenced facilities.This position reports to the Radiation Protection Manager.

How will you contribute to the team?
  • Perform formal and on-the-job training provided to satisfy the requirements for duty as a Radiation Surveyor (note this is not a trainee position)
  • Develop a good knowledge of the Radiation Protection Program at Candu Energy Inc. and achieve Group 1 RP qualifications as well as RAMT qualification
  • Develop good knowledge of all instruments used by Radiation Surveyors in the course of their work
  • Perform Radiation Survey duties under varying degrees of supervision, including shift work or irregular hours
  • Perform radiation surveys as requested by supervisors; including daily routine radiation surveys, posting and marking radiation signage and zones
  • Perform contamination checks on personnel (exit procedures from radiation zones), and equipment or facilities
  • Assist with personnel decontamination after a personal contamination event
  • Perform hazard assessments, review Work Permits for radiation protection requirements and approve Work Permits procedural compliance, and in offering advice on radiation protection or contamination control questions as they arise in daily activities
  • Inform immediate supervision of any unusual conditions or actions impacting radiation protection
  • Be conscious of the interaction between radiation control measures and their effects on production and schedule responsibilities
  • Maintain records and daily logs
  • Assist in radiation protection training delivery
  • Candu RAMT qualification


What will you contribute?
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a radiation environment
  • Past experience as a Radiation Surveyor (or equivalent) and good working knowledge of survey instrumentation
  • Possess a high sense of individual responsibility
  • Possess the ability to improve and deal with rapidly changing conditions
  • Ability to support projects from all SNC clients domestic, and international
  • Ability to oversee radioactive work; to be tactful and diplomatic with all levels of authority
  • Ability to work in teams, maintain strong cooperation with coworkers
  • Be able to liaise with management, supervision, customers and regulatory agencies using tact and good judgement;
  • Good knowledge of site policies;
  • Possess initiative, and the ability to work effectively with others;
  • Must be painstakingly accurate, conscientious and possess excellent judgement;
  • Possess good organizational skills and be effective at prioritising and working to tight schedules;
  • Good record maintenance skills;
  • Must possess sound computer skills and knowledge; and,
  • Be physically capable of lifting, handling, etc. various items on a regular basis.
  • Have or be able to receive Secret Security Clearance
