Our client, Mincor Resources, is destined to play a significant part in the impending Electric Vehicle revolution, having recently commenced development activities to a number of new high-grade nickel resources at Kambalda, and further South of Widgiemooltha.

Their Northern operations involve decline development from Otter-Juan and Long Shaft to several new orebodies. Both Otter-Juan and Long Shaft were easily the largest orebodies ever mined at Kambalda, and this is destined to continue. With a number of new orebodies already identified along the Ultramafic contact between the two, massive potential for life of mine extension exists to allow a 10+ year mine life.

The Southern operation consists of the new Cassini mine, which has only just commenced decline development off the base of the portal. Cassini is another high grade nickel mine with a reserve grade of 4.0% nickel and a current mine life of 5 years. Recent ongoing exploration success in the Cassini region has highlighted the significant potential for increasing both the reserve tonnes and grade, and therby increasing mine life beyond the current 5 years.

The position:
Reporting to the respective General Managers, you will play a pivotal role in the success of the mines by overseeing the day to day geotechnical operations, as well as designing appropriate ground support for the development and stoping areas. Additionally, you will research and implement best practice geotechnical modelling and play a strategic role in ensuring the integrity of all mine workings at both the Northern Operations and Cassini. For Cassini, you will be responsible for the identification and implementation of appropriate geotechnical engineering protocols & systems.
The declines at the Northern operation, commence at depth from the established development at Otter-Juan and Long. As such, this mine is expected to produce conditions that might entail rockbursts within intrusive porphyry and squeezing ground within the ultramafic hangingwall. Given this, it is currently envisage that you might spend 3 days a week at Otter/Long and one or so at Cassini in the performance of your duties.
About you:
As a person who relishes opportunity for hard work and thrives in a supportive team environment, you will have a Geotechnical Engineering qualification with between 5 & 10 years U/G, working in a geotechnical engineering capacity. As there exists potential to seek support from geotechnical engineering consultants in Kalgoorlie (who have previously worked in the northern operations), there is some potential for a geotechnical engineer with 3+ years experience to be considered, although not as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer

The rewards:
With an exemplary & well regarded leadership team, you will receive the very best mentoring and development to support you forge a highly successful career.
You will play a pivotal role in the 3rd wave of nickel mining at Kambalda that will underpin the impending EV and clean technology revolution.
A highly attractive salary will be negotiated including a base, superannuation and both a short term and long term incentive scheme, that will reflect your experience and capability.

Located within an easy travel time to Kalgoorlie, the role is offered on either a Kalgoorlie residential or FIFO basis from Perth. The roster is notionally 8/6.

Unfortunately, we are only able to consider people with appropriate and relevant experience, and who are either Australian Permanent Residents or have the necessary permits to work in Australia. Please do not apply unless you can fulfil this residency requirement as due to Covid-19, international candidates are currently unable to enter the country.
