Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Geologist: Projects Exploration to join their Geology Department at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Senior Geologist: Exploration, you will be responsible for generating new high-quality exploration projects within the mining lease and working collaboratively with the exploration team to implement exploration programs to cost effectively test those targets and develop resources to near production stage.

This role is offered on a 5 days on 2 days off roster with a monthly RDO and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie . Relocation assistance will be offered to the preferred candidate if required.

For the right candidate, an 8 days on 6 days off roster will be offered on a Fly in Fly out from Perth arrangement.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times;
  • Provide ongoing supervision, mentoring and coaching to Exploration Geologists and Geological Assistants to improve individual development and capability and enhance employee engagement and productivity;
  • Lead the integration of all geological, geochemical and geophysical data into three dimensional models using appropriate software leading to the generation of new targets by visualisation, interpretation and interrogation of these models;
  • Prioritise robust exploration targets at both mine and regional scale using business processes and support the submission and planning of approved work programs using the appropriate capital control protocol;
  • Planning, organizing and implementation of exploration programs in both greenfields and brownfields environments, including mapping, surface sampling, and (Aircore, RC, or Diamond) drill programs;
  • Collate and deliver accurate geological models, data, forecasts and associated reports within agreed timeframes to provide management guidance with progress/status against outlook, forecast and budget;
  • Contribute to the definition, implementation and monitoring of short, medium and long-term exploration programs to extend the Life of Mine (LOM) and increase reserves and resources;
  • Document and define the controls on mineralization through mapping, reports and presentations to build a pipeline of quality targets using historical data and knowledge for current and future reference;
  • Take full ownership and responsibility for the geological and structural interpretations for assigned projects. Provide contributions to the geological interpretation for resource models and reports. Deliver on expected objectives and time frames.


Key factors to your success include:
  • Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology/Earth Science. Post graduate qualifications would be highly regarded.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in exploration, previous experience in Gold exploration preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and geological software such as Leapfrog Geo and ArcGIS
  • Possess a valid manual WA C Driver's License
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
