New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. About the Role
Schedule: 5x2, Monday – Friday
Position Reports To: Senior Metallurgist
Position Overview: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Metallurgy Co-op student to join our New Afton team for an 8-month work term commencing in May 2021. The Metallurgy Co-op student will work with mill operations and metallurgical personnel to identify, evaluate, and implement solutions to improve process performance and/or reduce costs.

A competitive salary, performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.

The Metallurgy Co-op student will work with mill operations and metallurgical personnel to identify, evaluate, and implement solutions to improve process performance and/or reduce costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete plant surveys and trials in the grinding, flotation and gravity (inline pressure jig and Knelson concentrator) circuits. Analyze data and report results;
- Prepare for commissioning of the tailings thickener;
- Complete metallurgical accounting reports;
- Calibrate the particle size and on-stream analyzers.
Qualifications
- Completion of second year studies in a post-secondary engineering program, with a focus in Mineral Processing, Mining, Materials, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated focus on safety;
- Experience with mineral processing test procedures would be an asset;
- Understanding of process modelling software and/or statistical analysis would be an asset
- Valid driver's license and access to personal transportation.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
