Le Centre de support et développement est situé à Rouyn-Noranda (secteur Cadillac), en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Nous offrons des services aux différentes opérations minières canadiennes et/ou internationales d'Agnico Eagle dans plusieurs domaines, tels que l'administration, les services financiers, l'informatique, les achats et logistiques, les ressources humaines, les communications ainsi que les services techniques (géologie, ingénierie, métallurgie, PMO, infrastructures et environnement).

Le département des services techniques développe les concepts liés aux nouveaux projets via la réalisation d'études techniques, partage les connaissances et les leçons apprises (risques et opportunités) à travers l'entreprise et fournit un support technique de haut niveau à l'entreprise afin d'améliorer la qualité de celle-ci.


Under supervision of the Geotechnical Coordinator, the Rock Mechanics Engineer will be part of the Mining Engineering team and will collaborate closely with other department members. He/she will be responsible for tasks related to rock mechanics studies to develop various projects, or support AEM's mining operations.

The candidate may, on occasion, be required to provide technical support to Agnico Eagle's divisional engineering teams. He/she will also participate in drafting recommendations with internal stakeholders to identify the necessary actions to implement in order to ensure the sustainability of existing and future mineral reserves. The Rock Mechanics Engineer will have to ensure liaison with other technical specialists in other disciplines, including geology, hydrology, metallurgy and environment.

Job duties:
  • Plan, collect, compile and analyse characterization data of the rock mass. The work involves close collaboration with internal and external teams, as required;
  • Use and/or develop geomechanical analysis tools and numerical modeling in conjunction with the data collected to evaluate stability and optimize the design of underground and surface works;
  • Participate in underground and open pit excavation design projects;
  • Conduct analyses of excavation support systems and pit walls stability;
  • Support divisions and project managers in matters related to the rock mechanics field;
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team and coordinate, as required, design activities with external engineering firms;
  • Prepare technical reports;
  • Travel to Agnico Eagle's sites to provide relevant technical support and produce site visit reports;
  • Stay informed about technical improvements in his/her area and share his/her knowledge with his/her colleagues from technical services and mining operations;
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by his/her supervisor.


  • University degree in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering;
  • Graduate degree with specialization in Rock Mechanics Engineering is recommended;
  • Valid driving licence;
  • Member in good standing of a Canadian association of professional engineers (OIQ or PEO);
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience in:
    • Rock mechanics numerical modeling;
    • Ground control for underground and surface operations;
    • Description of core and/or geological mapping;
  • Knowledge of specialized software (Deswik, LeapFrog, AutoCAD, MAP3D, Rocscience suite, Surpac, etc.);
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and French;
  • Fluency in Spanish will be an asset;
  • Knowledge of programming language (VB, Python and other) or use of Power BI will be considered an asset.

Your Work Schedule

The position to be filled is located at the CSD Office ( Center for Support and Development ), which is located 60 km from Val-d'Or and 50 km from Rouyn-Noranda. There is a possibility of working a few days from another AEM office and the possibility of teleworking. The schedule is daytime Monday to Friday (40 hours per week) with the possibility of a 5-2 4-3 schedule .
