Job Description

SNC Lavalin are looking for x2 experienced Machinists to join our Mississauga location.

This position will consist of shift work with an afternoon schedule, working 4pm - 2am Monday-Thursday.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform programming, set-up and machining, using manual and CNC machines
  • Complete a process from start to finish – including programming (e.g., from models and drawings, using EdgeCAM and Mazatrol)
  • Set up and run close tolerance parts (sometimes within .0005” or better on a variety of steels – mostly - 17-4 Ph, 304, and 403 stainless steels on CNC lathes (Mazak, Mori Seiki and Boeringer)  and CNC mills (Mazak, Toshiba, OKK and Makino)  
  • Consistently and efficiently produce error-free machined parts using a variety of machines
  • Consistently read drawings and accurately machine close-tolerance dimensions on complex machined parts made of various materials
  • Efficiently and safely use machines; keep machines and work areas clean
  • Work with minimum supervision on jobs requiring an advanced skill level
  • Solve problems independently
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to other machinists
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks in a competent and safe manner
  • Perform safety related tasks
  • Be accountable to machine shop supervisor and/or job leader as applicable
  • Provide accurate machining estimates when required
  • Supervise staff and distribute work when required
  • Work according to Candu’s procedures and quality program
  • Work may include occasional field assignments and work in a radiation environment at a client site
  • Work in a safe manner and follow Candu and jurisdictional safety rules
  • Be available to work planned overtime


Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and 10 to 12 years of relevant experience
  • Completed a general machinist apprenticeship program or equivalent
  • Proficient in reading drawings and working from drawings
  • Experience with computers used for machining operations and general computer usage
  • Completed a CNC programming training program
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Previous supervisory experience or training
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Able to pass certification requirements for rigging and operation of overhead cranes and forklift trucks
  • Must be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) or willing to be designated as a NEW
