New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. About the Role
Schedule: 5x2, Monday – Friday
Position Reports To: Senior Tailings Engineer
Position Overview: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a student to join our New Afton team for an 8-month work term commencing in May 2021. This position will provide support to the Tailings Engineering team, reporting directly to the Senior Tailings Engineer.

Compensation
A competitive salary, performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities
- Prioritizing safety in the planning and execution of all job responsibilities;
- Instrumentation reading and data collection including, slope inclinometers, vibrating wire piezometers, monitoring wells and other instrumentation;
- Documentation and coordinator of instrumentation repairs and relocations including preforming cable splices, inclinometer extensions;
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in a University engineering or technical diploma program in civil, geotechnical, or mining engineering or related technical program;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated leadership skills;
- A business focus with an emphasis on safety;
- Past exposure to instrumentation or data collection will be considered an asset;
- Applicants must have access to personal transportation.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
