Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Technician: Electrical to join their Underground Engineering team at St Ives Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Leading Hand: Electrical, you will be responsible for providing quality and timely preventative electrical maintenance and repairs of the underground mining infrastructure, underground radio and telemetry network facilities across the lease and other areas of the operation. All tasks are to be completed to ensure operational targets are met in a safe, environmentally compliant and efficient manner in alignment with GFA and operation specific quality procedures and statutory regulations.

This role is offered on a 5 days on, 5 nights on, 5 days off roster and would require the incumbent to be residential in Kalgoorlie or Kambalda.

Bus transportation is offered to and from site daily and relocation assistance will be offered to the successful candidate if required.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of GFA and ensures that the Vital Behaviors are adhered to at all times;
  • Ensure the achievement of budgeted maintenance targets by practicing preventative maintenance through scheduled inspections, servicing, adjustments, troubleshooting and timely repair of plant equipment;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all task instructions and procedures and ensure that these are consistently adhered to when carrying out maintenance tasks;
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping throughout the maintenance workshops and wherever maintenance work is carried out, to contribute towards a safe work environment, efficient operation of the facilities and to reduce the risk of incidents or injury and the existence of potential hazards;
  • Routine inspections, installation & fault finding of Leaky Feeder communication system;
  • Fault-finding, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of the high voltage & low voltage underground infrastructure and mobile equipment, including primary and secondary pumping;
  • Commissioning and decommissioning of equipment;
  • Maintenance and repairs of RCT remote bogging/guidance systems;
  • Complete all administrative requirements associated with maintenance duties, such as requisitioning of parts and materials, processing of maintenance orders, recording of labour time, etc. through the efficient utilisation of SAP/AMT and other relevant information management systems.


Key factors to your success include:
  • West Australian Recognised Electrical trade qualification required
  • Minimum 2 years underground mining experience (Desirable)
  • Extensive knowledge of Atlas Copco & Tamrock drills
  • A valid C Class driver's licence
  • First Aid Certificate
  • High Voltage Switching certification (Desirable)
  • Working at heights and EWP tickets
  • Crane, dogging &/or forklift ticket also highly desirable
