About the role

We are looking for a Specialist Mine Development. This is a role to support national leaders in mine development team. Responsible for mine design reviews and enable the delivery of the mine development plans. Working 4 Week on/ 2 Week off FIFO or 5 days on, 2 days off residential roster and reporting to the Manager Mine Development, you will be:
  • Supporting the development of Mongolian Nationals, especially of Superintendents and Senior Engineers, in all areas relating to mine development.
  • Actively participating in design and mining sequencing reviews with the Detail Design and Technical Services teams.
  • Working closely with the Mine Development Contractor and the owner's Mine Development team in removing roadblocks and enabling the delivery of the mine development plans.
  • Actively participating in the Integrated Planning process and supporting all activities involving mine development.
  • Spending substantial time underground (around 60% of working time) overseeing the execution of mine development works, coaching and mentoring team members and supporting the development and execution of projects that are enablers for mine development.
  • Actively participating in Business Improvement initiatives relating to mine development and other areas of the business as required.
  • Ensuring all aspects of mine development operations are conducted safely and efficiently according to Oyu Tolgoi standards.
  • Investigation of accidents and incidents to determine causes and corrective actions needed to prevent reoccurrence.

What you'll bring
  • Ideally 15+ years mining experience, with 10+ in senior supervisory roles managing multiple heading large scale underground mine development activities
  • Experience with mass excavations and high-speed lateral development
  • Displayed skills managing contractors in an underground environment
  • Skills developing and working to process and procedure

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Certifications: Shift Supervisors Certificate or similar certification
  • Work and living experience in developing countries with strong cultural awareness
  • Block-cave or large stopping mine experience desirable
  • Mining Engineering bachelor's degree/Diploma

Where you'll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
