Expat Power Station Operator/Maintainer

 

African Mining Services (AMS) is one of the largest Contract Mining Companies in Africa with established support networks in Africa, Australia and Europe. AMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Perenti. African Mining Services is currently seeking an experienced Power Station Operator to become a part of our Senegal operations. Reporting to the Power Station Manager, this position is to safely operate, maintain, and service Cat Diesel Powered Reciprocating Engines and Generators. Ensuring the plant delivers highly efficient and continuous supply of power such that client and PSA targets are consistently achieved in the most cost-effective manner possible and including safety, health and environmental performance.


Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure contracted generation and fuel consumption requirements are consistently achieved
  • Operate the Power Station to achieve maximum efficiency
  • Carry out all engine servicing and minor mechanical and electrical repairs as required.
  • Carry out all generator servicing, repair and testing as required.
  • Maintain the site maintenance program for all PSA equipment.
  • Ensure optimum stock levels of spares and consumables for the site requirements.

 

  • Equipment
  • Ensure the control system operational parameters are constant and functioning automatically
  • Ensure that all High Voltage Protection Systems are operational
  • Ensure that all faults and mechanical defects to equipment are promptly reported to the Power Station Superintendent.

 

  • Establish and maintain a high level of employee commitment, well trained and competent to meet the tasks at hand
  • Team Management
  • Liaise with the client Electrical Superintendent or his delegate as required.
  • Attend and actively participate in all client-initiated meetings which address power generation and production shut down issues.
  • Ensure to supervise that an effective hand over is carried out with the on-coming shift, this is to include any agreed requests by the client.

  

  • Health and Safety
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained.
  • Ensure to provide support to power station employees with regards to health, safety and environment in the delivery of specialist power generation services.

 

  • Regulations
  • Compliance with all Statutory, Company and Client site-specific Procedures and Policy requirements e.g. Environmental Responsibilities of ISO 14001.
  • Maintain compliance with Mining and Electrical Regulations.

About You:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Qualification
  • At least 5 years plus working experience in the operation of power generation equipment
  • Experience and Competent Operator of High Voltage Switchgear
  • Knowledge of diesel reciprocating engine service requirements (CAT 3516)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities
  • Fit for work and self-managed
  • French and English speaking
  • Experience in the mining industry highly regarded
  • Experience in Africa highly regarded
  • Ability to read drawings
  • Manual Drivers license
