Engineer 1-4 - Rock Mechanics

Location: Stillwater Mine

POSITION SUMMARY :

  • Carry out ground control assessments of existing and future mine designs.
  • Review and approve all development and stope extraction proposals- design and sequence.
  • Provide input to the weekly and monthly planning processes
  • Review long term mine designs and reserves as directed by Sr. Rock Mechanics Engineer
  • Be involved with the preparation of the annual ground control budget and LOM planning activities.
  • Assist in the development & communication of Ground Control Management Plan, revisions to SOPs, and other ground control related documents.
  • Research and possible application of state-of-the-art underground rock mechanics technology in design, monitoring, and support
  • Quality control and quality assurance of ground support, backfill, and shotcrete.
  • The development and presentation of educational material as they relate to rock mechanics and ground support (new-hire training, Annual Refresher)
  • Other responsibilities include assisting the general foremen and others in the individual mining areas in the execution of the plan.
  • Participate in group, department, divisional, & company safety programs (PGI, Safety Meetings, etc)

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • BS in Geological Engineering or equivalent with 2-4 years relevant mine experience- preferred
  • Previous rock mechanics experience required
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision
  • Experience with RS2, UnWedge, Vulcan as relates to geomechanics modeling -preferred
  • Well-developed verbal communication skills and strong technical writing abilities required
  • Basic understanding of MSHA regulations- required
