General Supervisor - Electrical

Barrick is looking for a General Supervisor - Electrical to join the Fixed Plant Maintenance team. This person will be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of the electrical and instrumentation assets within the processing facility. The scope of the plant and equipment includes but is not limited to, emergency generation, power distribution, medium voltage switchgear, motors and motor control, instrumentation and process control systems. The incumbent will ensure proper safety and environmental management systems are followed as well as organizing employee training activities.

Responsibilities:
  • In partnership with mechanical, planning and reliability personnel develop and refine the electrical and instrumentation maintenance strategies and programs.
  • In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the E&I maintenance activities with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard maintenance procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections.
  • In collaboration with the other personnel of the process plant, establish the safety and workplace standards that will pertain to the process plant and more specifically to the area of responsibility.
  • Develop and write electrical and instrumentation standards and procedures.
  • Assist in defining the training requirements and establishing a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis matrix for national electrical and instrumentation personnel.
  • Interact with the HR personnel to identify, recruit and develop the E&I maintenance team.
  • Identify, purchase and manage the E&I specialized safety PPE, work and power tools, E&I maintenance equipment and the distribution of hand tools to the E&I personnel.
  • Ensure suitable care and maintenance programs are put in place by EPCM contractors to maintain the equipment before turnover. Develop and apply care and maintenance programs for the equipment turned over to PVDC before start-up.
  • Develop a commissioning strategy. The incumbent will be part of the pre-ops and start-up team.
  • In collaboration with the commissioning manager, other area personnel and engineering, coordinate commissioning activities.
  • Report progress of commissioning activities and progression, safety and environmental obligations.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of a certified program of competence in Electrical/Instrumentation as a Journeyman or technician complemented by leadership and supervisory training. Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering are highly regarded.
  • 15+ years of experience in a hydro metallurgical, petro-chemical or air separation plant with 7+ years as a supervisor.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Microsoft Office
  • Maintenance Systems
  • Skills and ability in hydraulic maintenance, large air/gas compression equipment and positive displacement pumps, and maintenance and rebuild of high performance seals, valves, pumps and oxygen service equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding applications in titanium, duplex/super duplex stainless steel piping and vessel fabrication and repair.
  • A solid understanding of maintenance techniques, philosophies and their application.
