Contract Specialist - Energy

Location: Perth

This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground level of a rapidly expanding, dynamic, global green energy business. Fortescue Future Industries is currently undertaking a rapid expansion and are seeking applications for a Contracts Specialist - Energy to assist in the planning, development, sourcing and management of energy and power arrangements to effectively meet organisational and business objectives in accordance with Fortescue's corporate energy strategy.

Reporting to the Manager, Energy and Power (Strategy and Legal), the Contract Specialist will assist and lead the planning, development, sourcing and management of hydrocarbon arrangements to effectively meet organisational and business objectives in accordance with Fortescue's corporate energy strategy.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of high value, business critical agreements
  • Leading negotiations and providing strategic direction with regards to the development, implementation and management of contracts
  • Compiling agreement documentation, recommendations for award and managing variations
  • Reviewing and processing claims
  • Identifying and creating opportunities for cost reduction and value adding in all agreements
  • Managing strategic contractor relationships
  • Reviewing and checking invoices


In order to be successful in this role:

  • Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone
  • Ability to communicate and interact with all levels within the organisation, including site and core functional areas (eg tax, finance, legal, purchasing and accounts)
  • Extensive experience in a fast-paced commercial contracts function
  • Experience in managing complex commercial contracts, including claims and invoicing
  • Experience in gas and gas transport will be highly regarded. However, candidates with the right attitude looking for a development opportunity will also be considered
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously, whilst managing team priorities
  • SAP and Microsoft Office experience
