Senior Engineer - Studies & Infrastructure

Roster: This position will require extensive international travel for prolonged periods and candidates should be expected to work within a dynamic and changing schedule.

This is an exciting opportunity to get in at the ground level of a rapidly expanding, dynamic, global green energy business. Fortescue Future Industries is currently undertaking a rapid expansion and are seeking applications for a Senior Engineer - Studies & Infrastructure.

This role provides technical support, advice and guidance towards the feasibility study and schematic design activities for capital pipeline projects, including the development of project scope, budget and schedule and working through all phases of project development. The role will also participate and assist the Study Manager in project submittals reviews, conduct technical analysis on project and program data, and assist with the generation of internal and external communications and/or presentations

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop capital core program projects to ensure compliance with Fortescue's guidelines and conformance with Feasibility Study Agreements regarding scope, budgets, and schedules of proposed projects.
  • Participate as directed in the technical review of feasibility studies, schematic designs, cost estimates, consultant prepared reports, and other required submissions for Fortescue-funded capital projects
  • Development of the studies and associated deliverables including: scope, analyses, plans, estimations, controls, risks and documentation.
  • Develop and present project related recommendations
  • Assist in leading project meetings with other Fortescue personnel, design consultants and Project Managers
  • Feed into monthly progress reports for assigned projects to monitor progress, identify potential issues, and status reports.
  • Support Capital Hit Squad in program documentation and the analysis of program data to evaluate the effectiveness of Fortescue policies and procedures
  • Provide other technical and professional support and SME knowledge in the preparation of internal and external reports and presentations.
  • Effective handover between stages.
  • Enforcement of project governance controls in co-ordination with relevant policies and standards


In order to be successful in this role:

Candidates must be able to bring a flexible mindset, challenge traditional thinking, and be prepared to work outside of their comfort zone
  • Degree (Hons) in relevant engineering qualification (Electrical / Power preferable).
  • Prior experience in engaging and influencing management and executive level stakeholders
  • In-depth technical study and early project phase experience in energy, infrastructure or resources sector
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment in collaboration with other like-minded team members and adjacent project teams (also delivering a variation of the system).
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
  • Fluent spoken and written English language skills with additional foreign language skills advantageous
  • Strong computer literacy
