About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Operator to join our Paraburdoo Engineering Team on a permanent basis to collect and prepare samples for physical and chemical analysis to identify tonnage grade, all within accordance of the safety, environmental and statutory requirements. This role is a great opportunity for an individual with an understanding of quality control and quality assurance.

Working on a roster of 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO ex Perth and reporting to the Process Engineer, you will:
  • Actively work within Rio Tinto's Safety Policies and Procedures to achieve and maintain zero injury
  • Prepare and analyse process plant samples appropriately
  • Perform equipment checks and calibration checks in order to maintain the continuous operation of the sampling devices
  • Assist in troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance of Laboratory equipment and systems
  • Perform sampling, sample preparation, chemical and physical analysis on designated samples and liaising with service customers (Grade Control and Geology).
  • Operate and maintain sampling and analysis equipment which includes: StarLIMS, Citect, Panalytical Axios XRF, Claisse The Ox automated fusion machine, LECO TGA's, Claisse The Ant automatic weighers, Rocklabs Mills and Crushers, IMP Sievemaster and Kawasaki Robot.
  • Inspect automated Plant Sample Stations and monorail system.
  • Monitor, fault find and escalate non-conformance that occurs with preparation and analytical equipment or non-compliance with analytical data
  • Actively participate in our continuous improvement system in order to optimise the service provided in the areas of turnaround, quality and cost

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • An Australian manual C-Class Drivers licence
  • A Certificate III or higher in Laboratory Operations or a related discipline (desirable)
  • Experience with the mentioned computers systems as well as Microsoft office an Excel
  • Strong analytical and mechanical aptitude to diagnose faults and problems in laboratory equipment and systems
  • The ability to make informed decisions and act promptly when dealing with breakdowns and stoppages
  • The ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time

Located 80km south of Tom Price, Greater Paraburdoo is an open pit operation producing high grade ore as part of the integrated system of mines operated by Rio Tinto across the Pilbara. It is comprised of three mines: Paraburdoo, Channar and Eastern Range. The picturesque town of Paraburdoo offers residents a range of leisure facilities and local amenities including a jet-serviced airport. The operation has a predominantly residential workforce and as such has a strong sense of community where you will be a part of something bigger than just a mining business.
