Operations near and far

Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.

Who we are looking for

In this role you will provide technical input to both open pit and underground geology-related projects, impacting on the value chain.

Reporting directly to the Chief Geologist your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensuring safe systems of work are in place for all drilling activities; ensuring personnel are trained, inducted and competent to perform work; ensuring competent supervision
  • Warranting that there are clearly defined and effective geology execution & accounting processes in place under the sponsorship of the Chief Geologist
  • Supporting Resource Geology personnel with developing high quality models for input into the mine planning process, through appropriately reconciliation practises and data analysis
  • Contributing to short, medium and long-term design, scheduling and financial modelling processes by provision of high-quality orebody information
  • Identifying business improvement opportunities and developing plans to realise potential benefits
  • Ensuring high performing team culture (build trust, healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, team results)

This is a permanent position at our Telfer Operation in Western Australia. Whilst the roster is 8 days on, 6 days off cycle, it is the intent to allow this role to be on site for at least 1 rotation per month, with the rest of the time working off site. The Chief Geologist will work with the successful candidate to determine the most effective on and off-site working arrangements to achieve the objectives of the role.

Our ideal candidate will be a degree qualified Geologist with solid operational experience (both open pit and underground) and good exposure across the Mine Value Chain.

Other requirements include:
  • Strong technical experience in metal accounting within the mine to mill value chain for both Open Pit and Underground operations
  • Good understanding of sampling and assay QAQC practices and principles
  • Ability to collaborate and develop strong working relationships with corporate and site teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Gold and copper experience preferred
  • Strong analytical thinking with respect to querying databases and trend analysis
  • Extensive demonstrative experience in using both Vulcan and/or Leapfrog software.
